mine arrived yesterday after sitting on back order for i guess 2 weeks. now of course its just over a quid cheaper with the VAT drop. now i have to wait until christmas before I can use it as its a present from my wife, doh, and its sunny outside today, i want to use it now

took pics at the gig tonight, thanks for the advice all. mostly stuck to 800 ISO, and for three or four 1600 when needed. took loads and had some gems come out of it. Very happy with one now on the gallery actually taken off stage before they went on for the second half. Will post another proper gig photo also on the gallery for comments. left the auto white balance on and stuck with manual, tried out some things.

yep, to overcome red eye, and mount the grip on a tripod connected via the long cable (hoping this ends up being the 5m cable, the ebay listing does not say), to put the flash up at different angles. i've found so far the af160 range to be better than the onboard flash, not by much but enough to be useful. For what I want to do £15 inc postage seems a bargain, do you think?

so long as it works with my af160 it suits me.

Is there a good web site with reviews for older lenses, the Photozone site doesn't have things like the FA 100-300, and the 80-320, stuff like that. Would like to get some idea what is worth looking out for.

Hi, First thing might be to ask here if there is a thread that is recommended by anyone on this subject.

I will be taking pics at a live event, just in a village hall, no scrum in a crowd, I can walk about. I would hope to get some good results from my 50mm 1.4 prime, by upping the ISO and opening the aperture, and setting shutter speed as fast as I can. Personally, on my K10D I have avoided 1600 ISO as its a bit too grainy, but some people might like that effect at a gig. I wonder what people think about what settings work well for them in such events. ISO/Aperture/Shutter/White Balance/Metering, what tends to work for you. This will be a folk gig BTW so some fast moving musicians, nothing major on the lighting I suspect other than standard stage lights. I can't wait to have a go at this, my first time snapping a gig.

AF160 arrived in post today, nice and cheap from Ebay. I can see it's not getting me much more than the pop-up but is an improvement. The guide on the back of the flash doesn't seem that helpful, found images quite dark until I adjusted the aperture, even with the iso set to 400. I reckon this will be just enough improvement for my needs.

I wonder if any experts would be good enough to list or point to a weblink that details the other second hand flashes that tend to come up and what improvements they make on the 160. For example how much improvement is there from the 160 to the 200?
