Rats are very clever creatures then we realise. Here is a link found of some rats having fun and being pictured.

It's actually quite scary how quickly the landscape changes in urban areas and very soon even the most innocuous photos of today will have great historical value.
Sadly very true, even now there are big plans for Salisbury's market place.

Salisbury is a beautiful city and your interesting pictures show another side of it as well. I enjoyed visiting here in 2012. Hope you don't mind me crashing your thread Louise but here's a couple of shots I took.

Lovely pictures. I would say the 2nd house is Georgian and would have seen life before the invention of the motor car.

I'm a tad curious about the newsagents shop in the first photo. I'm guessing the goat outside the shop was either in lieu of payment for a very large newspaper bill, or perhaps this was the only place in Salisbury that stocked Satanic Rites Weekly??!!

Har har. Lee's is or was, close to the countryside and there is a farm just down the road. So it is possible to take your goat for a walk on the way to get the newspaper

This is down the road from that building.

This is the view you can expect to see towards Sarum Castle way.

Am going to get a better view of the castle at some point when the weather gets better.

Here are parts of Salisbury tourists don't normally see. They all go round the cathedral and Stonehenge, but they don't normally stay to have a proper look round.

This used to be a newsagents shop in the 1970's called Lee's.

Look closely under the road sign and you can see the outline near and around the front door of where the old entrance used to be. I have many memories as a kid here buying retro sweets such as sherbert (anyone remember those?) and white chocolate fish and mice. We used to get our newspapers here, and once I saw a goat tied up outside the door.

This is an old saw mill, when my parents first moved here to the houses nearbye in the swinging sixties, it was a hive of activity of buzzing sounds of saws etc. I suspect the building is even older but I am unsure. The place is now eerily quiet with plans for redevelopment of new buy houses.

Entrance to the gasworks with older buildings in the background.

This is going to come down soon, a familiar site around Salisbury, also earmarked for new buy houses.

This house hasn't been lived in for years, would make a lovely family home, can you imagin the history it's seen. It would have been here at the time of the Teddy Haskell murder.

Old St Pauls Road which runs alongside the new dual carriageway which was built in the 1960's.

Thanks for looking at pictures

Thanks, who is the youngest on this forum? I think there's photo comps for children too.

Thanks. Do you think it would work in black and white?

A new site for children has been created. Lots of children like to take pictures, catch em young, and they will be the best by the time they are teenagers.

Diddipix.com encompasses all things fun and creative for budding young photographers. It is aimed at children aged 6-16 years old and is run by the fictional cartoon character, Professor Pixel.

There is a gallery section where children can showcase their best photographs, and they can also offer and receive constructive comments and star ratings.
Professor Pixel is there to offer advice and invites children to send in their own photos and ideas. He also keeps abreast of current photographic news and events and reviews cameras and photographic gadgets.
The site is packed with photo ideas and techniques as well as featuring photographers from past and present.
There are competitions with great prizes and photo projects to raise money for children’s charities.

Diddipix is also educational. It ticks boxes for ICT and Art within the national curriculum and is great preparation for any child who may wish to study photography for GCSE.

Diddipix is the brain child of Kirsten Harvey, who has combined her love of photography, teaching and writing for children to create this site. One of Kirsten’s pupils said, ‘Now I have started photography, I don’t want to stop. I take photos of ordinary objects that I would normally have just walked past and I transform them into amazing pictures. Taking photos is like going on an adventure.’

I just had to buy the K-30 as it was only £361
Is that from MRS Microsystems? I am still getting used to my K30. I went to a church in Bournemouth and found the grave of Mary Shelly, who wrote Frankensteine. I love doing church interiors but find they look a bit distant on the lens, I have an 18-55mm. Can you recommend a lens which is good for landscapes and inside of churches?

Here is the original window that was above the doors. Most of the windows are now plastic rimmed. This is the last ever frame still retaining it's wooden structure. Windows are no longer like this.
