Would it be a good idea to find out exactly what our rights are so we can print them out and keep handy as stated in the article? Where can I locate these easily?
From the solicitor in the article:

"If you are a normal person going about your business and you see something you want to take a picture of, then you are fine unless you're taking picture of something inherently private" which is simple common sense.

However, in the same article:

Under Section 44 of the Terrorism Act 2000, police officers may randomly stop someone without reasonable suspicion, providing the area has been designated a likely target for an attack.

Couple that with the terrorist threat level system in operation in the UK:

CURRENT THREAT LEVEL: SEVERE This means that an attack is "highly likely" and indicates a continuing high level of threat to the UK.

Then if the UK is "a likely target for attack" theoretically anyone can be stopped anywhere for taking photographs.

As stated, it's the lesser-trained and ancillary "extended family members" (PCSOs, Special Constables, etc.) who are likely to puff and blow about this. If common sense is involved in the taking, there is no justification in either a demand to erase (with good recovery software, that's no solution anyway), or confiscate.

Does it have to be done on a mac or can it be done on a proper computer? Are the pages printed on just one side or both?
Preparation can be done on either a PC or an Apple Mac.

Printed both sides in the example I've seen - beautifully bound - a real coffee table production.

... it's a real pleasure to be served at Argos ...
.. where it's usually full of people in sportswear who you know are never going to the gym. The process, however, is simple. You go to the list, look up your choice, write down your choice on a form (with a stubby little pen), then take it to the counter and pay. You then watch a TV screen until your number comes up, at which time you go to another counter to collect.

Sound familiar? Couldn't be more like the bookies if they tried!

I've had a punt too. The odd thing is that, on his home page, he says: "Best viewed at 1024x768 using Firefox," but I could only download the "Tastes Combo" files using IE!

Many thanks, iceblinker - that's the site page I was looking for - brilliant, the file is downloading as I write this!

I hope I'll notice the same improvement as you did, George.

Edit: All successfully installed, updating my paid version to 3.0.18.3 which does seem a little faster.

I had an e-mail notification about an upgrade to 3.0.17, but when I went to the website, it wasn't at all like it has been. I was usually met with a download button, a form (already filled in with my e-mail, name and camera type) and that was that. No such luck this time (and it's NOT a cookie thing), but a note said that downloading the latest would "update my registered software."

I downloaded the file (around 22Mb, as usual), but there was no warning dialog box along the lines of "There is already a version - are you sure that you want to update/overwite it?" so I backed away from it on the grounds that I didn't want to trash my existing version (3.0.13).

Any knowledge / comments, please?

I should add that the file for download is silkypix_win.exe rather than the usual SilkypixE30132.EXE

I should add that I have previously installed PENTAX Browser/Lab some time ago but uninstalled it since I wasn't using it. This shouldn't affect trying to install it again if there are no remnants of the previous installation, should it?
I'd say that's your entire problem, right there. Did you use the "Add/Remove Programs" option, or delete it? Does the "PENTAX" directory (folder) still exist on your computer? Try searching for INSTALL.LOG - this will show you the registry keys and values which - if you're confident enough to edit the Registry - you can manually check for and remove.

If you can't find the Pentax Install Log, PM me your e-mail address and I'll ping you a copy of mine. At least the keys and values should be the same.

My installation was trouble-free, ido. The only thing that comes to mind is: has the program set the location for the install and does it exist?

If, for example, it's trying to install on its own source drive (i.e., the CD-ROM drive), or to a default location which, for some reason on your machine, doesn't exist, then it will fail.
