Installing Photo Browser/Laboratory

When installing Photo Browser/Laboratory from CD-ROM (S-SW55) to PC, choosing language and clicking [PENTAX Digital Camera Utility] as instructed in manual, instead of Installer starting a window appears on a blue screen stating that application is already installed, when in fact it is NOT installed. Anyone with experience of and/or answer to this problem?

My installation was trouble-free, ido. The only thing that comes to mind is: has the program set the location for the install and does it exist?

If, for example, it's trying to install on its own source drive (i.e., the CD-ROM drive), or to a default location which, for some reason on your machine, doesn't exist, then it will fail.

I believe it's based on Silky Pix, so if you have SilkyPix installed, it could be picking that up?

Ray & Co, the program doesn't show an option for selecting location. The language choice window comes up and then the PENTAX Digital Camera Utility window. After clicking on that, a window stating 'Initialising Wise Installation Wizard' pops up shortly followed by a window stating 'It is already installed'.

I have checked for all remnants of PENTAX and Silkypix files/folders and none remain. I have run Registry Mechanic and tried to reinstall program but same thing happens.

I should add that I have previously installed PENTAX Browser/Lab some time ago but uninstalled it since I wasn't using it. This shouldn't affect trying to install it again if there are no remnants of the previous installation, should it?

Confused ido

I'd say that's your entire problem, right there. Did you use the "Add/Remove Programs" option, or delete it? Does the "PENTAX" directory (folder) still exist on your computer? Try searching for INSTALL.LOG - this will show you the registry keys and values which - if you're confident enough to edit the Registry - you can manually check for and remove.

If you can't find the Pentax Install Log, PM me your e-mail address and I'll ping you a copy of mine. At least the keys and values should be the same.
