Be careful with Sigma's they have a bad reputation for element separation, usually starts with the lens going a bit cloudy.

There is someone on the US forum uses 165mm 6x7 lens plus 2x converter and gets really good results, so good I thought of getting one myself. linky

Few more things popping up on the site today!

Question: Why did they put the K-7's on a 30 day sale

I'm very impressed with the Philips 8" Photo Frame. I never though I would be always considered them a gimmick that people give to their grannies. It's great for looking through a card while your eating and for looking what's on old cards you haven't used for sometime. It would be better with a remote, but the picture is very high quality (800x600)and the random dissolves on slideshow are good. Unfortunately some distortion due to the different aspect ratios, hardly noticeable unless there's something circular in the picture. Photos resized and cropped on the computer to 800x600 would show OK.

There's one on at present for £25 free del.

All AV software generates far too many false positives which is why I posted the link to Jotti earlier in this thread http://virusscan.jotti.org
People have trial posted Windows Notepad.exe there and a lot of the virus scanners reported it as infected when it wasn't. A lot of the stuff you've had flagged up is probably safe and clean. Often if the program is protected from decompiling it gets flagged as infected. If you have Spybot Search and Destroy on your system it used to have a list of nasty stuff in the registry that it's looking out for, which was OK but the AV software used to scan for the virus name and flag it up as being infected which was just stupidity on behalf of the AV programmer.

I've never used one but a lot of people use a Sandbox for safe internet browsing: http://www.sandboxie.com - It's Free.

I've just had to restore one of my computers back to an image because Scandisk made a bit of a mess fixing some NTFS file errors. The image still had Virgin PC Guard on it (I'd uninstaled it after making the image due to false positives it kept flagging up). It immediately quarantined two known clean programs that I'd paid good money for, so it's coming off today!! Slows the system down too much anyway as do most of these type of programs.

AVG used to be good, but now has a bad reputation for false positives. I had a paid for version, which they just stopped supplying virus db updates for to force me to buy it again.

Norton used to be slow, but the latest version is supposed to be better and you don't get messed about by them. I admire the way they still use the same db format for updates and even old scanner progs still work. I don't actually use it but I've read that the update file always has the same name and the DL link never changes. Quite a lot of Norton CD's have a standalone Virus Scanner (System Works, Ghost 15 etc.) and I understand that it will import the latest definitions from say a flash drive.

This is the ex-demo Canon EOS 450D 18-55mm IS Kit that went for £110 link
The girl that bought it sounds happy from the feedback she's just left.

I could have bought it but I don't want a Canon

many thanks does that mean that pc sockets are designed to take higher trigger voltages eg studio flash etc
No!!!! The maximum voltage Pentax hint at applies to the PC socket as well.
Do you know the trigger voltage of the flashgun? It seems to be 24v link At least it's not 300v+ It's up to you it's still quite high. I use (on a 300v) gun a small flash fired at an old photocell, that was designed for high voltage. The small flash is fired from an RF-602 on the camera. link

The RF-602 can also be used the other way around to trigger your camera from 100m away. Well worth buying 2 sets.

A small photocell costs about a fiver... I'd rather risk frying that than the camera link

A lot of people are using 24v guns on Pentax cameras.

It's an old Makinon 135mm lens.
I doubt you'd find that one on the web. There is one on stripping a CZ 135mm.

There's a good French site somewhere that shows you all the processes and explains the materials used.

Does anyone know a suitable solvent for getting rid of the oil? I've an old lens with this problem and when I cleaned the aperture with isopropanol or sonicated it in acetone the oil leaked out of the grease again within a few days. I there anything I can use to get rid of the grease/oil more premanently before regreasing with a suitable grease?
It would be better if you said what make the lens was? You need to completely remove the old grease which is usually a mix of oil and soap. Because its separated hot water or as Hefty suggests with washing up liquid should work. Wipe off as much as you can at first. There are some good illustrated articles on the net, but you need to find the one with your lens.

Even some recent lenses such as 15 year old Tamrons are showing this problem.

You also need to bear in mind that a lot of the older 300mm lenses were very big and heavy. I've got a 400mm M42 Tokina that's like that and it really takes some steadying. I don't have any problem holding a 300mm and converter though. Must a be a weight/mass thing.
