I never used one because I had an expensive Takumar zoom. I wouldn't
expect much of them in terms of quality. They disappeared after that.

Pentax cameras were also effected). Pentax issued a Notice
in Dec. 2005 link
For a while some cameras (possibly all)were fixed free of charge,
but it seems Sony refused to carry out repairs after Jan.
this year...... so don't ever buy a Sony camera

Someone on this forum got a Dynax 7D repaired free last
January.

The other forum now shows 55% faulty or 133 cameras
This is going to mess up the SH market for K-5's anyone buying
will need to carry out the sensor test before buying just in
case the original owner didn't know about the problem. Plus
are Pentax going to replace sensors on out of warranty cameras?

photo originally.... they had the one for the 200mm, but they
also have the 200mm on sale at £700.... 2 available. Strange
thing is they've been up for about a week and none sold

I've always thought it strange if Zeiss and Pentax worked together
after the release of the Yashica built Contax. Yashica were already
struggling with their sales of the Yashica brand so why involve yet
another brand?

on the other forum about false information being put out, including
stuff about sensors overheating, it doesn't help, but it is the
internet and that's full of false information
Just purely based on the number of people who have had 2 and 3
cameras with the fault indicates the figure is quite high. I just
wish Pentax would state the cause of the fault.

good points and while there is no need to tell you this, JR some others might be surprised to learn that most zooms are vari-focal lenses that regardless of indicated focal length on the lenses, the focal length actually changes as the lens focuses. This is especially noticeable in wide range zooms like the 28-200's....

DrOrloff's statistical proof on Page 4 of this thread before dismissing the 50% faulty figure. People reply to posts without reading the previous ones
Obviously the 50% figure will go down as more cameras are checked before reaching the shops.

The first one is a classic.... I'm not sure about the 2nd with
it being off centre?
