It's an awful lot of K-5s worldwide though. It seems the rate of faulty units is around 50%.
Where has Pentax or anyone stated that 50% of the units are faulty? You cannot base your assumptions on a poll here.... I had heard its around 5%, but again I don't have first hand correct information from Pentax.
Strange post Your complaining about the figure of 50% which has been discussed before and is about the figure shown in two polls and then quote a figure 5%? where has this come from? It's stated above that SRS have 23 coming in and an earlier post in this thread referred to 17 replacements. At 5% this would mean SRS have sold around 450 cameras? There would also be a hell of a lot of happy users about

That's the spacer. I wonder how many versions of that came out

Also, when looking at the sensor through a professional magnifier these dots will show.

If the dots can not be removed by professional cleaning the dots are between the sensor and the filter, and in that case your camera will be replaced.
That's the first time as far as I know that someone from Pentax has said that the dots are between sensor and filter. Does that mean the story about them being within the glass is just made up?

At least the music industry never went 100% over to cassettes which they were going to do a few years back claiming that was what the public wanted

Pentax should have had the proper story ready..... now rumours
will spread and cause loss of sales. It would take about 5 mins
to put the glass under a microscope and see if the problem is
within the glass in which case a 3rd party could be held responsible.

Makes me think the problem isn't within the glass

£415 is far too much for a 170-500mm. They usually go for
£250 - £325 in Pentax fittings.

I never remember anything like that Matt and I bought several
NEW M bodies. There was a clear plastic washer about 30mm diam
x about 4mm with a hole in it to allows the tripod screw through
into the body. It was just a spacer really and I thought it was
if your tripod has no adjustment on the screw and left the camera
loose. It had a sort of diamond shaped non slip engraving on it.
