Review time in PPG

Reading between the lines of the reply I received, it seems the trigger point may be 100 votes. Get 100 votes, your picture is approved.

The current delay is that after the down time there are a mass of uploads, far more than usual, plus the backlog, so they expect it to be quicker as time goes on and things settle down.

I did a voting session today and some of Dr O's were up for voting, one being the bunch of garlic, so this may give some indication (for him at least) of the time lag at the moment.

I can tell you. Uploaded on 4th November and approved this morning. The odd thing is though that 4th November batch of five uploads were all approved this morning. Even though I assume they would have been close to each other in the presentation for voting they can't all have reached the same number of yes votes at the same time.

Its about two months since any of my pictures were accepted or declined. All that has happened in that time is that five images in the declined section have now vanished. I still have nine photos awaiting a decision. I've not submitted any more since the end of October.
I sent an email asking if there were still problems with the gallery but haven't received a reply.

Had one of each today, they were uploaded on November 16th, Istill have 4 outstanding, 2 from November 6th!!

I've got fed up and given up even looking now. Some 'official' feedback on why so many delays would be good, I suspect it is due to backlog and sheer volume, but why can't they post a simple message on the website informing us of the situation?

I uploaded 11 photos on the 26th October and all 11 of them have been accepted today. I too find it odd that all 11 of them would have received the requisite number of votes at the same time.

I've also just noticed there is a huge dust bunny on one of them - so I don't think that one should have been accepted anyway.

Just checked this morning after not visiting PPG for a few days. Nine images pending since October have all been accepted and no more declined. Now I'll start submitting again.

Hi - thanks for all your observations - honestly - I think PPG is now more and more getting into a regulary release mode but I wonder, if the review process has somehow changed in the new PPG. With the "old" PPG, I hade an pproval rate of 33-50% - in the last 7 weeks I uploaded 35 pictures and 34 were accepted (and I don't think, that my pictures are significantly better then they were before the PPG upgrade).
I also realized that you very often get a bunch of similar pictures when doing voting. With some pictures you can clearly see that they are out of a series of pictures. I also think, that you kind of stay in one or two categories when you do a voting session - e.gg. in obne session I only received wildlife photos while a day later it was travel.....

Same here, 30odd acceptances and one rejected. I think it is now automated as photos can be accepted at any time, whereas before I'm sure they were reviewed as there didn't seem to be any accepted outside of normal US working hours. Acceptance rates are too high and there are plenty of images that shouldn't be there and probably wouldn't if a judge was involved. The other thing I've noticed is that photos are not getting into the Premiere Collection since relaunch.

Maybe this means your place in the queue is affected by how much you vote on other pics. Would be OK if the loading time wasn't STILL SO DAMNED SLOW for those of use with slower connections.

I've really only started submitting since the changes and although at first I was pleased with an 80% hit rate I'm starting to wonder if the selection criteria are as rigorous as they should be. I thought the whole point is that the ones that get through are thought to be a bit special by the wider community and/or really experienced judges. Devalues the 'success' of getting one in if it's too easy...

Update - just checked and of a group of five submitted a couple of weeks ago three were rejected. So faith restored just a little bit .

Although given my novice status that's not to argue that standards haven't slipped .

Hi Tim - I think you are right - not just regarding the easiness of getting things in (which seems to be the result of very uncritical judging) but also regarding the quality of some entries. I have seen many pictures in the last weeks, which are really just a kind of vacation snapshot quality. It is getting more and more easy to provide pictures which are good from a technical point of view, the new Pentax DSLRs support full program "photographers" really good. However - so many pictures I have seen are kind of uninteresting - no special perspective, composition, crop, usage of light and shadows; no surprising pictures - there are more and more every day shots and I am with you when you say - PPG should be a gallery with special pictures - pictures that are not just eye catching but which keep you looking at them again and again.....
However - at the end - a user-voted gallery always contains those pictures, the users want to see
