well one thing is for sure... if Pentax wanted to make sure it didn't cannibalize D-slr sales, they will probably succeed.... d-slr shooters seem to hate the way it looks...
now as for wether it will sell to everybody else..... I'm optimistic.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I have to agree. Is it forlorn to hope that Ricoh are not quite up to speed yet and this is a Hoya hangover?

Ricoh should cull the team responsible for the marketing of this product- regardless of the performance. Starting with the Muppet from the interview.

The muppet from the interview was just placed in an intolerable position.

He probably isn't as stupid as he sounded - he couldn't diss his own company's product, so as the cognitive dissonance kicked in, he inevitably came over as awkward.

The killer question was "what are these mirrorless features?". He was dead as soon as that was asked.

Add to that those responsible for the Q

I am afraid, the K01 will give another reason for Pentax Users to jump and will certainly add very few new users
K5iis and a couple of lenses.

I think Don's got it exactly right.

It's a different product, for a different market than the majority here.

maybe so- but the message from Pentax is this market is "fashion and design"- can anyone here fathom what this means?

a lot of positive comments here... I think it will find it's niche...

BTW there is mention in one review somewhere that the lcd has a new antiglare coating that improves things in bright light... also read that the af is much faster than anticipated by some...

I really hope so Don. I don't think the core product is that bad at all, specs wise. At the very least, this is a cheap way of getting publicity, and getting a camera to market with minimal R&D.

most of the people mocking it already own d-slrs or competitors brand mirrorless... so let's wait for the people shopping for cameras to chime in with thier credit cards..

It means people who will buy the camera because it's designed by a famous designer. To be fair that will assure at least some sales, and they can be guinea pigs for a few new bits of tech that will be further refined before it goes into mainstream products...

I don't think the K-01 is a reason to jump. I am not giving up my K-5 and the Pentax glass to go elsewhere. I would have really liked to be able to use them on a much smaller body than my K-5 and I might buy a m4/3 instead of the K01 but that is all there is to it.

What I don't see is the proposition here. I understand that I am not necessary the target but I struggle to see who is.

Let me just say first that I generally like and respect Pentax gear.

This latest effort unfortunately falls far short of Pentax's high standards. Firstly lets just say that the styling will put the vast majority with any smattering of interest off and then there is the size. I've seen pictures of 'it' sat next to the K-5 and well there's very little difference. Coupled with size there is no EVF so you have large and ugly brick to hold at arms length and struggle in bright sunlight.
So it seems the designer(s) have managed to pretty much wipe out all the advantages of a compact mirrorless camera, and give it a style by pass in the process, a shame because it should have been so much better.

To wind up, the spec may be OKish but who is going to feel liberated enough to shoot with it in public?
Just my humble personal opinion.
Regards Huw

But he isn't famous though is he? Outside of design circles nobody has heard of him.

they would be better off launching the Pentax K-01 designed by Lady Gaga if they want sales by association (it would probably look the same!)

The camera is going to take great pictures. No argument.

Just don't get the marketing ideas.

But he isnt famous though is he? not outside the world he inhabits.

if they want sales by association just hook up with Lady Gaga ! (the camera would probably look the same!).

The Marc Newsome connection is a total red herring.

So are they saying it is more about style than substance?
