Yeah!
They are however great for the people who liked the Rangefinder style of shooting and I think there are plenty of those about, I'm sure Pentax/Ricoh could do something that would appeal to them with the already existing Ltd lenses, along the lines of the Fuji XPro1 but with aded pentaxiness (New word?)
Cheers Jules...

My viewfinder is 576,000,000 pixels.
My other viewfinder is 5.76,000,000.

IIRC, I think someone joked about using a K-01 with a black cloth over it and your head, so as to be able to see the LCD in bright sunshine.

What we need is a clip-on rectangular tube, about 6 inches long and the right size to surround the LCD, with an optional reading-glasses lens of suitable strength, a little way in from the eye end.

Presto, a viewfinder.

Surprised Don hasn't already made one.

I think I'm the guilty one re the black cloth, but as regards the tube idea I think you'll find there's already at least one on the market.
Best regards, John

I imagine the viewfinder was invented, among other reasons, to solve this very problem.

The K-01 brings a whole new meaning to the term 'retro'. I mean, I wish them well with it and all that, but seriously

The black cloth is a good idea but it should have a white outer cloth, to keep the heat off, especially in Aus

By all accounts the LCDVF is the one to buy. I've read and watched video reviews about the LCDVF, it would do the trick very nicely even with a K7/K5 in bright sun.

About the viewfinder:

Today I was with a group of friends and I asked a chap to take a picture of us. I handed him my camera and he was completely lost, as the LCD screen was off. Even when I explained to him that he should look through the viewfinder, he kept the camera 30 cm from his eyes.

So maybe for the intended average K-01 buyer a vf is really not needed, and those who would use it a tiny minority. Hardly worth the investment, I guess

I see Ben Kanarek (Benjikan here) is using one to make videos of his fashion shoots.
