Seriously though it looks a great solid little DSLR. Have a read over on 'depressing review' Oly forum and you'll see quite a lot of posters there think it looks the business (on the basis of the leaked photos and specs).

Thats it then, if the Olympus brigade think it looks ok I'm off to Nikon.

can't have it all ways, if it's got to be metal to be "pro", the pro cameras have to be heavy.


There's one good feature no one seems to have noticed,

the new grip takes a Li-Ion OR 6x AAs for emergency power. You can't argue with power versatility.

Here is an idea for the next model.

Strip out as much of the gadget electronics and 'must have' features as possible to reduce weight in the body. Leaving the body as basic as possible, no in body processing, just a basic RAW file. Focus on IQ, lots of greyed out menus.

Make gadgets and features available to those who need them via a separately purchased grip(s). As more must have features become available you just buy another grip. Greyed out functions become available with the addition of a grip.

By selecting a common form factor and interface, it should be possible to design a modular system, based upon a common body and a series of add on grips.

I can see lots of advantages in this approach in terms of reduced manufacturing costs and user choice.

I suppose to be fair they do have this link on their software download page http://www.pentax.co.uk/index.php?id=1398〈=en which does go to the latest firmware (Japanese site).
Although you are right in that from the K20D product page the firmware download is still v1.01

And this is exactly my point, how are people going to know about the brand if they cant even be bothered to put a simple flash advert on the main UK website. Absolute madness, their advertising section should be shot.

Agreed. The Pentax uk website has always been very out of date.

Well, Terry, ttk, has gone to Canon and who can blame him, HoyaPentax seem to be playing to the share holders and not the good amateur photographer, who just wants to take excellent photographs. Reminds me of the video cassette recorder, kept on adding features that no one really ever used, or know the features were there and we all know what happened to the video recorder. It is a shame that they didn't considered making a digital version of the Pentax LX, now that would have been something - are well - where's the nearest Nikon dealer!!!!

The Pentax website is an absolute disgrace, about as good as a chocolate fireman! Pentax used to be up there with the market leaders, now it has a job to keep up with Sony who used to make video recorders.
I do not know why I have stayed so loyal to the brand for so long - 47 years - I know - I need putting out to grass.
