My "rule of thumb" would be that if a repair exceeds 50% of the new price then in needs very careful consideration. I'd probably scrap that one and buy a new K200D or Km.
The exception of course would be something rare which might be worth repairing beyond its value, but that doesn't really come into it with the K200D.

Jeanette if it was mine I would not have the repair done, £288 is half the price of a new K20D at the moment, and there will be loads of S/Hand ones when the K7 comes out.

No I would not pay £288 for a repair when I could get a second-hand replacement for less.
A "3 week old as new" K200D recently sold on eBay for £263.99 + £10 postage. Shockingly/pleasingly cheap, depending on whether you're selling/buying.

Hi,
Thanks to all of you for responding. When I first saw the K-7 I did consider upgrading to that. However, I have been following all the forums about it and while I like the idea of the vide for the safaris I go on (sometimes it would be nice to capture the whole scene and the noises and if yu are with a group of lions with small cubs just eing introduced to the pride, you may not have time to switch to a video camera and back again before they all disappear again!), I have decided to go for the K20D, using my K100D and the repaired K200D towards its. Also hoping to invest in a macro lens. Not sure if I will risk Ebay again to buy though.
Thanks
Jeanette

Some of you will know that I have had a problem with my K200D which is relatively new. It started to clunk when switched on and I was told that the Image Stabliser was broken. So I took it to the London Camera Exchange to send to Pentax. I promised to let you know the outcome so, I rang LCE today and they chased Pentax. The result? Apparently its the main circuit board (PCB). The cost will be £288.42 to repair. Unless of course I can find where I bought it from to see if it is in warranty. I would be interested to hear want other members would now do with the camera? I don't know whether having it repaired is worth the money, given that LCE have told me that by about July all Pentax cameras and equipemnt will see a massive increase in price due to the £/$ exchange rates.
Thanks
