People are saying useable Live View a Big Plus but other cameras had a very useable live view over a year ago.
HD - Old Tech Also now.
Higher Res LCD - Old Tech.
In all honesty if they want to shift these they will need to be priced around £700 max and even then i doubt many would move from the K20D.
My reasons for my opinions are these options have been available on other makes for about 8 months to 2 years now (certain options 8 months, others around 2 years now) and if they were an important option for you then you would have bought another System by now.
Pentax has said that it is nog a direct K20D replacement.I have to say im not really that impressed if thats the true spec.

I will not upgrade to the K-7 directly either, I only got the thing for about a year and I am not really interested in shooting video allthough I do understand that people who shoot weddings are happy to be ably to use 35mm lenses for shooting video (shallow DOF and such). Allso using a Bigma for shooting video sounds interesting

Hadn't thought of that ... may well keep mine for a while longer then Allso using a Bigma for shooting video sounds interesting
From how I understand it though, the K20D will not be replaced as such .. the next model due around xmas will be a K200D replacement so Pentax would then have a lineup of K-m, K300D (or whatever) and K-7 as the high end camera.

Although the K7 is very interesting and an obvious step up from the K20D in many ways, it's probably too expensive and also a bit too small for me, plus I wouldn't use most of the additions/improvements.
I believe that the replacement "enthusiast" camera will will cover both the K200D & K20D niche, i.e. a mid price model. I suspect it will still be a small body and may be too dumbed down to be considered as a true replacement for the K20D, i.e. Penta mirror and single wheel but with the K7 sensor with all the LV features, as that seems the new de-facto requirement.
If the IQ is considerably improved and the body "feel" is okay, then I may consider a K7 when the price is around £500!
The K20D has everything (and more) than I actually need/use, so I have a feeling that for those of us who really like the K20D, it will fast become a classic.

I thought that they would come also with a K30D though, you get something like the nikon line-up
D60 - K-M
D5000 - K300D
D90 - K30D
D300 - K-7
Although I don't think that the K-7 is an even match with the D300 but is placed under it but it looks like it has some more power then the D90... let's see what will happen.

Aren't these the modes it can send through the output socket (HDMI), rather than what it records?
Thing I want to know is how to bracket now the button seems to have gone. And talking of bracketing, why does no one do focus bracketing as well as exposure, etc?
Robert.

Not sure, K-7 is lacking the AF points but has added bonus (supposedly) of weather sealing, inbuilt SR and (For some) video recording.Although I don't think that the K-7 is an even match with the D300 but is placed under it but it looks like it has some more power then the D90... let's see what will happen.
Saying that the D300 is due a change fairly soon I believe.

I can see your logic, but think it will be a 3 model line-up for this year at least. I thought that they would come also with a K30D though, you get something like the nikon line-up

K-m - K?? - K7
I think the K200D/20D slot will be merged into one model (K??) that will effectively replace the K20D, the K-m is really the K200D replacement. I just hope they don't dumb it down too much.

There is quite a diffrence between the current models.I can see your logic, but think it will be a 3 model line-up for this year at least.

I think the K30D might wel be a degraded K-7, no magnesium body, no 100% viewfinder but a 95%, it sounds small but it saves a lot in costs. Magnesium vs Plastic and the precision needed for 100% viewfinder is a lot and precision cost money. And then maybe some other, a not so good LCD screen for example just to bring the cost down.
I think that leaving the hardware the same is the best choice but simple changing the sell.
The K300D will probabe have the hardware of the K20D but then with the shell of the K200D or new one, so mirror isntead of prisma etc.
They have done it with the K10D transforming it into the K200D and that was succesfull. so that Leaves the K-M as the real beginner camera.

Well the good news for pentax is this: some people thought the k20 wasn't enough to give up thier k10's...
but I'm one camera test away form doing just that...
if the video works well in final cut, I'll be grabbing one for sure...
with stills, I'll just have to shoot dng format until Apple releases an updated Aperture, which I'm sure is going to have some kind of system wide integration with the new video files recent dslrs are producing!

Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I know the K7 does a lot that I won't use (not least, video), but for me the idea of having a camera with the controllability of the K10/20 but in a body the size of the K7 is a real plus. Personally, I often reach for my K100 instead of K20 just for this reason.
Mostly the performance of the K20 is far in excess of my requirements, so as long as the K7 is at least as good, and handles well when you pick it up and use it, I could be tempted. I've already started a big clearout of old kit, just in case the reviews and price eventually become irresistable - I can't justify shelling out lots of new money for it, but could persuade myself that it's OK if I cover most of the cost by selling other stuff....

last chance to enjoy speculating!

(actually looks photoshopped around the flash...).
no idiot would've cut the top off the flash by accident...
look at those two images carefully and it looks like there is room across the top of the flash for a row of l.e.d. video lights......
I'd say it definately gotz video lights and I'm betting that l.e.d. on the body near the shutter release is in fact an infra red led af assist light for the af for video and low light.

I'm afraid I haven't worked out half the things my K20 will do,so I'll stick with it for a while yet!....
