New Camera Pentax Leaked

if the camera is wi-fi enabled the green lights in the hand grip might be wi-fi signal strength indicators which would be useful if there is also a ios/android app with remote and tethering and live view available.
also the red/green led around the shutter button could be red for REC for video and green for stills modes.
live view via wi-fi and smartphone/tablet would negate the need for a flip out lcd as well saving cost.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

All that doesn't detract from the fact it's even uglier than the K-01 ... and that's saying something.

Probably designed by Mark Newsons 5 year old daughter.

Reminds me of the little icon lights on my IST* film camera...I loved them..they always made me smile....and they still work!

Love that mode dial around the 'four-way' dial - great idea

If the design is accurate then it strikes me that the mirror box could easily be removed and we'd end up with a CSC. Either for current lenses with an extension of some sort to give the correct back focus or a thinner body with new lenses.

In this scenario I'd imagine a design that could share quite a bit of manufacture between CSC and DSLR ranges, thus reducing costs and making introduction faster.
Best regards, John

Why have they replaced the "a" in the name with a "-"

Should be Ricoh KaS1

I suspect this may be a wind up. It looks wrong for Pentax to issue photos of a new body with an obsolete lens attached, even if they are 'secret' images? Why would they do this?

Even if it is a fake, I like the idea of the mode dial being moved to the back!

look closely at this image... in the lcd view you see "virtual" buttons... that replicat the physical buttons on the camera back.. on your ios device you'd have a touch sensitive screen...
also supports my theory that the green lights in the hand grip are a wi-fi signal strength bar..

I believe we are seeing the same display that would appear on the ios app that allowes remote control of the camera from a smart phone or tablet..

The handgrip lights could be used to indicate time remaining for a self-timer shot, though i suspect green would be less visible than red, and the current system of faster beeps just before the shot works fine already.

I think this is a handsome camera, but the lack of top LCD and (probably) grip option would still prevent me from buying it.

It's a fake. If it was real, we would see "RICOH" marked somewhere on the camera.

possible it flashes "Ricoh" on lcd during start up.. but no where else on preproduction model pics....
I'm guessing it was leaked to gage how people would respond to it. I'm guessing they are more interested in Japans reactions...
I'm guessing we are seeing Pentax's replacement to the entry level model, but it will have very advanced wi-fi features to compete with mirrorless cameras.

my guess is, we'll see a lot of features we'll want in the k-3's replacement later on...
Ricoh may just be testing consumer reaction to new tech by adding it to the entry level models first and wait for the conservative old pro's to beg before adding the features to the next top tier model...

this will be targeted at those users who might be tempted to jump brands for m4/3's

Seems odd that the Green Button is moved next to the
shutter release on a beginners camera?

ricoh only has one wi-fi camera with ios app that I know of.. theta
pentax promised something completely new...
other camera makers are selling wi-fi enabled mirrorless and compact cameras...
the leds in the handgrip look like they could do duty as a wi-fi signal power meter bar...
imagine the shockwaves through the industry if this thing RAN an IOS android operating system and they release a software SKD and open source firmware!
