We don't do pixel-peeping very well on here. Try DPReview.

In this case he is for me. But hey....I am not everyone and certainly not measurebating about two cameras I don't own. But as he says.......on DPR they love to pixel peep, so chances are higher to get immediate satisfaction over there. Danny (Unlocker) has showed some high ISO shots from the Pre Prod. K-7 model. That should give you a fair idea compared to your K20D, right?

all the reviews on the k7 against the k20 show the k20 having less noise, the way i look at it is the d300 is suppose to have better noise control, i wouldn't want to spend 1200 on a camera that is really much better than the k20, alright its suppose to have a better autofocus system but how much better, not d300 better, and the 5.2fps is great, but with the prices of pentax goods going up and stupidly. my money is still waiting to be spent,

If the K-7 now has more noise than the K20D is it do to the Sensor tweaks that Pentax did before the camera went on sale?

EDIT: missed letters

I don't do high ISO shots. The photos I've taken so far (not a huge number) seem to show either the same or actually less noise on the K-7 compared to the K20D, contrary to what others say. Then again, I'm not trying to take photos at ISO1600+ (I generally use ISO200/400 with DR enabled). I'm firmly with George on the question about pixel-peeping, it holds no interest for me. The relative noise levels seem wholly irrelevant to me so long as the detail is there and smeared out of the way with NR.

Take a look on page 3 you see a photo of the pentax lenscap.
I think the K7 has a more pleasing noise then the K20D and with some luck also easier to remove.

Run them both through Neatimage 5.9 standard settings, now tell me what you think.

Original K7

Original K20D

Filtered K7

Filtered K20D

Okay take a step back from the screen when looking at them, as you can see the K20D has some colouration under the letters TA you can quite clearly see some red, blue and green.
The K7 filtered lenscap looks far more even from colour and as you can see the noise gets filtered out better then with the K20D.

The K7 might appear more noisy since the noise has an higher contrast against the K20D chromatic noise, might that explain things?

very good stefan, it doesn't help the white balance being different, but Neatimage looks like it does a very good job,

I don't want to hijack this thread out of respect for the OP.
So my opinion is found here. If you feel up to it.

Happy shooting.

Martin.
