k7 v k20 for noise

Well, I had a quick look at Shim's link, and clicked on one image, and thought "The K-7 looks nicest to me". The K20D and 50D both have quite unpleasant colour noise, and the 50D has nasty jpeg artifacts.

I look back at my Provia 400 shots, and think "thank goodness for digital". Noise compared to grain is just in a different league, and I'm using a K10D. I can't wait to get my hands on a K-7, but just not at the current price.

I must admit I have decided to hold back on the K-7 for the moment due to the noise issues. Trouble is there seem to be varying reports, some being that it is the same as the K20D and others that it is actually worse .. none that I have seen say it is better.

I am actually thinking of keeping my K10D and largish selection of lenses (which is excellent for 90% of the things I do) and looking for a used D300 or D700 instead of the K-7 for low light photography and using my selection of Tamron SP Adaptall 2 lenses with it (17mm f3.5, 35-80mm f2.8, 70-210mm f3.5 and 90mm f2.8 macro).

OR ... I could just use my flash and tripod more

This site found massive differences even at 100 ISO and 200 ISO and these sound like they were from RAW 24 Bit BMP's link

Why dose the K-7 seem to have a noise problem now over the K20D, when Danny had the pre production model it seemed to handel noise quite well IMO.

So far, that is not my experience with the K-7. On the contrary, it seems the same to better that the K20D to me so far.

Well, I've just read most of RiceHigh's blog, and I'm off to get a D700.
Anyone want to buy a large kit of Pentax gear?

I don't have a K-7 to compare but, other than my subject being out of focus, I'm quite happy with this shot noise wise. K20D + DA* 50-135mm, 1/125s, f2.8, ISO6400, no flash, from about 30-35 metres. The image has been 'cleaned' with Noise Ninja.

This is the only shot I took throughout the evening at ISO6400 and I screwed up the focussing. The subject is Rocky Athos, lead guitarist of John Mayall's current touring band.

I took only one lens, the DA* 50-135mm, I should have taken the DA* 60-250mm.

Everything on the internet is true, so that must be right.

The Sunday Sport once found a double decker bus on the moon! It was in the paper, it must be true!

Not yet, cancelled my pre-order due to a link on here where Jessops were selling the Sigma 500mm F4.5 for 2099 down from 3999!! Think it was a one off, but ordered one anyway and they have said allow upto 28 days for delivery as it is now special order. If it falls through, I'm driving to Watford!

It was an offer too good to miss!

I couldn't possibly comment other than to suggest that a very large whisky might be in order.

Is it any wonder Scots put his gear in the classifieds.

That's what the classifieds are for, so I guess that's the best place if anyone has anything to sell!
