Well that's it. His Nibs is officially retired. Desk cleared, company car handed back, keys to the building, one of the two company laptops too. The other he needs still for his work on Monday.
They gave him a pair of binoculars as a retirement present. My suggestion, as he uses his Dad's ancient pair now. I hope he is happy with them. There was a booze up in an Irish pub. Lots of computer nerds together, and the obligatory Powerpoint presentation was also provided.
He is the first person in the company to retire so they were not sure how to mark the event.
Two of the sons and a daughter-in-law also went and then we went for a meal afterwards. That made up for the Irish Pub.

Afghan Tourist bureau?
Mexican police?
Just curious as to why the rest of the employees keep 'disappearing'?

At a local major oil refinery they plant a tree with a
brass plaque when someone retires, but because of the
fumes around the refinery the trees don't last very
long

He has worked at the company for 24 years through 3 name changes/mergers, and was also their oldest employee. Most of the rest are software nerds in their twenties and thirties getting experience as consultants before settling on a permanent employer elsewhere.
