So no one can say that HG has lost his bearings then.

His marbles, now there's another story....

Well done. I find chain tightening more than fiddly enough!

Nice one HG, it`s amazing how grease solidifies and seizes things up. The old WD 39 & two halves is a good solvent and will wash out the old lube along with petrol. I reckon regular alcohol has much the same effect. It stops me seizing up, I have to get up at regular intervals.
Enjoy life

Now that's a very good reason for a beer or two, it helps you exercise!!

And the advantage of the Beema, shaft drive...
Cheers, HG

Why is it always Monday? Why can't we have an extra Sunday then go straight to Tuesday?

Us retired folk have enough trouble remembering what day it is, never mind you mucking about with the order they arrive.

Because you'd miss out on all those bank holidays if you did .

His Nibs retires on Wednesday, which should mean a week of Sundays, were it not for the fact he starts work again next Monday.

What are Bank Holidays? We self employed people don't get them.

I didn't even get a Saturday this week. Although I did get a week's pay for two days' work.

Probably got more work done on Saturday than the rest of the week put together.

So you'll be retiring early?

His Nibs becomes self employed on Monday. What a load of stuff to organise so he could do that, a company name, registering that name with the KvK, smiling sweetly at the tax man for permission to be a one-man business, and getting a VAT number, and so and so on.

Not easy here to be a one man band. Let's hope he gets enough work to make it all worth while.

He has work for 6 months or so, (with his current employer) and who knows maybe he'll actually want to retire after that.

You have to ask? In the UK you just register a company and you're away. I think you can only be stopped if you've been bankrupt or have a criminal record.

I've set up three different companies in my time, limited and non limited. Not one of them took me more than a day!

It's the taxman who makes life difficult here. Strictly speaking he is not allowed to do what he will be doing - working for the company he used to work for, as his only contract. I think the fact he is over 65 makes them more lenient.
The KvK needed a business plan and to decide what type of company he should become - far more complicated here as there are many more forms of company here.

We'll see what happens. The money will be nice certainly. I just hope he doesn't end up working all hours God sends again.

Meanwhile I intend to make the most of his two days of retirement, and hand over a long to do list .

If you even think he might he will probably have too, in the beginning anyway. My brother in law started his own business. I was given the opportunity to join him in partnership but declined. He never got to retire.
