A few pubs here sell Guinness, but not many. I haven't tried it in a pub here. Only from a tin. It was evil.
No idea where the draft Guinness served here is brewed.
Heineken now own Murphy's so you see that in pubs too, but mostly Murphy's red not their stout.
There is an Irish pub in Apeldoorn where my mom lives but never looked at the beers

Alistair - why not get some Pentax lenses with either tints or photochromatic properties - much easier to handle and harder to lose - lol

Yeah TOZZA27 I agree Pentax lenses - good idea BUT they don't discreetly [ or not so discreetly ] tell the world that you know how good Pentax actually is .

Sorry Yves, I must disagree! Beer, wine and liquor may be purchased 7 days a week in Newfoundland also. Most convenience stores, gas(petrol) stations and many other outlets supply beer, but since there is an inordinate number of very large government run liquor stores, virtually throughout the whole province, most private retailers only sell beer. The community in which I live, a suburb of the Provincial Capital, has a population of roughly 12,000 yet 5 liquor stores and I know of at least 26 beer retailers. Many drinking establishments here, stay open until 3 or 4 AM and can remain open longer if they are willing to pay an additional licensing fee.

Cheers,

Stephen

Can anyone remember probably 30+ years ago when Fosters came in a larger can, and was much stronger and more viscous?
I have to say that I can't remember that, but I have never been a great lager drinker.

Interesting point about the lacquer. I find the taste of both aluminium and tin cans to be unpleasant, and tend to buy beer only in bottles.

Interesting, too, about different recipes for English and Irish Guiness. Is your source impeccable? I would have thought that most food regulations come from the EU now, and would apply equally to both countries. Indeed, Ireland might have a case to argue re discrimination. And since most Guiness is exported, I would have expected them to make just one brew for all markets.

But, who knows. Stranger things happen.

Tony thats what I use photochromatic with anti glare and multifocal to boot, but they still don't work as well to keep the glare off like peak
And yes I found out that USA Pentax won't export their baseball caps ence the question to see if there is anouth source.
Alistair
my taste buds are not up to much but I though the best Guiness seemed to be in Dublin.

Don't forget that water quality affects the taste of your favourite tipple .

A beer brewed in Scotland will not taste the same as the same beer made to the same recipe when brewed in London .

True, in South Africa the main local beers are Castle lager and Lion lager, both brewed by SA Breweries at several sites. There was a definite taste difference from one brewery to another and that was always ascribed to the differences in the local water at the brewery,

I have to say - after many years of drinking Carlsberg - that I now prefer either Peroni Nastro Azzuro or San Miguel or Leffe or if I`m in Jersey - draught cider or draught Guinness.

I remember the famous Guinness campaign many years ago now when the fella asked the barman for a "cold Guinness"."Blimey" the barman replied,"you`re the 7th person to ask me today - there`s no call for it"

In Romania one is often given the local homebrew firewater called tuica (pronounced zwee-ka). If it has been stored in a plastic bottle it tastes like petrol! Stored in a glass bottle it varies from foul to delicious depending on who made it. Personally I prefer the Transylvanian variety. If you have some that has been stored in a plastic bottle, decanting it to a glass bottle and leaving for a while cures the problem. The best stuff has been stored in wooden barrels and left to mature.

Cheers, Kris.

Very True.

Now they've stopped brewing Teteley's in Leeds it doesn't taste the same, it's a sort of euro beer, you know it should taste OK but....

Surprisingly one of the Smiths breweries at Tadcaster is making Websters Pennine Bitter and it tastes fine.

It's just not the same as the beer that came from the Fountain Head brewery in Halifax!

In the North East of England we used to get Lorimers and McEwans beers shipped down from over the border. If you wanted one everyone asked for "a pint of Scotch". I got a very funny look when, as a teenager, I asked for the same during my first trip to Scotland.
