Now, as anybody will tell you, I don't like to be pedantic....., BUT:

Old Peculier has a peculiar way of spelling Peculier.

indeed it has, if memory serves it's because of the actual meaning of the name, which has something to do with the church. I can't be bothered to look it up right now though!

Haven't been in a tetley's pub since the beer changed so I wouldn't know.

It was a good pint though.

OP gets it's name from this LINK

Keep up now...

...Interesting, too, about different recipes for English and Irish Guiness. Is your source impeccable? I would have thought that most food regulations come from the EU now, and would apply equally to both countries. Indeed, Ireland might have a case to argue re discrimination. And since most Guiness is exported, I would have expected them to make just one brew for all markets.

But, who knows. Stranger things happen.

Not one impeccable source, but many independent ones. I know that Guinness in Irish pubs is different in taste and effect - I prefer the Irish brew to the English one but suffer the day after whereas I do not with the English brew.

I believe the difference may be down to one being Pasteurised and the other not.

As to the aluminium cans, most drinks tend to be acidic and carbonating them makes them more so. The metal is paper thick and the tin would fail quite quickly if it were exposed to the acid.

In a similar way, crown corks are lacquered before they are put on bottles. The taste will instantly tell you if there is a perforation in the lacquer.
