I found out last year that I'm uninsurable. Despite almost a complete absence of medical conditions or illness!

We'll probably have to go through all this again next year when his nibs need to take out an annuity for his pension.
The difference between insurance and an annuity is:

Insurance, the company wants you to live 'forever' and keep paying premiums. Therefore medical required.

Annuity, the company wants you to die as quickly as possible after they have your money. Therefore no medical required.

They don't pay out much on annuities anyway
Whatever you do don't delay it.... get the money as
soon as you can. They don't pay out anywhere near
what they paid out years ago

Have a look for legal tips on this site...

That is why I didn't delay and took mine out as soon as I was able too. I don't get much but it would have been a damn sight less if I'd deferred until 65.

To help combat being overweight my doctor advised doing something that made me breathless twice a week but I told her even when I did smoke I was still overweight

Can't buy an annuity until next March/April. It will be barely worth the paper it is written on. Which is a bummer as it is our main pension. Neither of us get a full Dutch state pension. He gets a bit of state pension from the UK too, plus his minute civil service pension.
I didn't work long enough in the UK to qualify for any pension from there. Luckily the Dutch state pension is universal, not based on contributions.
Things are not looking good from next year. Especially as we are stuck with a mortgage on an unsaleable house in a falling market as well. Good job his employer is keen to re-employ him part time.
Might be living in that new car yet.

Exactly.
Not to mention the price of the mooring.
And I still have a house to get rid of.

At least the car is an estate so we can lie down it. The dog will act as central heating .

I've just looked at the time and realised apart from it being past my bed time I'm now 69 years old
