Yes, shingles can be very unpleasant, so hope you feel better soon.
Best regards, John

Thanks, I'm hoping it isn't but all the symptoms are there. It just got too painful today and I decided a visit to the doc is needed.
Luckily it is not on my face.

I'll keep you posted.

I ain't lost any rain - honest - you should see the trench that was dug in the pavement opposite my house between the hours of 7.30pm and midnight last night . Seems there was an electrical problem somewhere .

That trench is now half full after today's little downpour - and it wasn't that bad here.

Hope you get on OK at the Doc's tomorrow Gwyn - shingles is NOT fun

Got a new hand-held vacuum today to pick up stray cigarette ash from my 1930s ashtray/stand. £8-odd from Currys, although I suspect it may not hoover the carpet very well with its 4.8-volt motor. Anyhow, can anyone explain why electric devices nowadays come with insulated covers over the power plug? The chances of getting a shock from a disconnected appliance seem pretty slim. Just curious.

So it is shingles. Probably. I got the trainee GP. She'd never seen it before, having been a pediatrician before (though my son had it when he was 9, after having chicken pox as a baby).
So she called in the GP, and he was not 100% on it, but thinks it probably is.
I've been given antivirals which may or may not help, and told to take ibuprofen and paracetamol alternately. If they don't help I can get a prescription for something stronger, but then won't be allowed to drive.

I wish they'd given me a knockout pill tbh. Sleeping is impossible. Like wearing a bra at the moment .

Sorry to hear that Gwynn.... Can't you rub some anti-itching
cream on such as Eurax or Lanacane?..... You can also get
Ibuprofen Gel.

The itching isn't the problem - it is the nerve pain, which is excruciating.

A splendid first night in the huge caravan (4 bedrooms). The way it was shuddering and the wind howling it was like being back at sea. Supposed to be drier tomorrow but still windy so doesn't sound a promising day foe going to the zoo

Get Well Soon Gwyn

The coldest winter I remember was a Summer I spent in Aberdeen

All seems to have clamed down a bit now. Enjoy the zoo and try not to worry about the fact that your house will be 3 feet underwater!

much improved today on this side of the country too - thankfully since my wonderful workers are cutting lots of things to fit. Where are they doing this ? In he garden of course , but they are really working very very hard - bless them.

One very 'nasty' turned up this morning - a socket we thought was dead was not - and the cable linking it to a light fitting [ don't ask ] was lead !!

Socket and cable now removed and more electrical work hastily done .

Super day at the zoo. Saw the pandas and some monkeys but the most amazing things were the painted hunting dogs. There were lots of signs saying how dangerous they were but the signs didn't say it was because the dogs were invisible too At least it stayed dry and the penguins looked cute in their temporary enclosure
