Another pointless thread

Yes, so it is back lit like a computer screen. This means you can read in the dark, but may not be as restful on the eyes as the e-ink black and white version, and may be harder to read outside on a sunny day.

You should have a look at both types before deciding.

Obviously if you intend to also download magazines onto it then the colour version is better.

Bum! It has started raining.
The forecast for tomorrow is not good.

I was hoping to go get some photos of dancing cows. I'm not sure they'll dance if they see the weather.

The Vox is basically a Linux tablet, and very pretty Dave.

The KOBO Touch was @£80 from ASDA and works just fine.

The screen is the same as the Kindle, battery life seems as promised and so far I'm chuffed with it.

There are numerous sites out there that have free books on them, as well as the KOBO home site, hence the Rice Burroughs reading.

The only thing that could be a pain is the occasional refusal to recognise touches, but using a different finger helps(?)

Oh, and the files it's supposed to read form an impressive list, but I haven't tried them yet so...

I would like to apologise for the weather as I'm guessing its because I'm going into the dales for a few days. Might be giving my K-5 an outing or might be the kindle in bed for the duration

It's not your fault Annie, it's a bank holiday.

It always rains on a bank holiday!

So, get out with the K5, it is weather sealed after all, and get some moody 'wuthering hieghts' type shots. After all it is a break from your normal day to day life..

Think a kobo/kindle whatever could be useful for downloading "how to's"
when installing software etc. Like the idea of the camera manual stored on it. Wouldn't it be safer keeping passport details etc on a flash drive/sdhc card tucked away somewhere, less of a target for the bad guys.

Stan

Stan - that is what I do. If you read my post I have my passport details and my Pentax manuals on a stick. It lives separately to any valuables. I have also e-mailed my passport etc to myself at a gmail account, so I can still access them from another computer if the worst comes to the worst. Didn't mail the K-5 Manual though - I figure if I need to read it via gmail I probably no longer have the camera anyway.

That's a good idea Gwyn.

I forgot to mention that the KOBO Touch is android powered and as such can surf the internet, as well as having various extras installed (sudoku is one of them).

I'm going to see how it handles PDFs now.

Well it reads PDF files without any bother, which is great as now I can take my manual with me and not feel guilty if I never need it!

I do hope your "stick" is password protected, as 'access' to your passport by bad guys is best avoided.

Just to add at this late stage, had a 2nd Gen Kindle for a while now and love it. I'm not a fan of the touch - I prefer having the buttons on the side (so I can read one-handed).

I think they are all pretty similar. Mono e-ink types should be better for reading in bright light and have a longer battery life, colour types (for now) will have a worse battery life, be better for reading in the dark and be better for surfing.
