On the plus this last week, I've bought a couple of those KOBO E-Reader thingies.
Loads of free books out there and I'm now reading Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom series of books, something I intended doing ages ago but couldn't track the books down.
My broken other half is happy with hers as well...

HG how are you finding the Kobo ereader? I have been thinking of getting one for the holidays.
It seems that they are good at reading pdf's which means you can put a Pentax manual on it...

Dave - I have a Sony reader, but download my books from Kobo. I am very happy with my reader. So much easier for travelling, and books are cheap from Kobo most of the time.
I also like the fact I can increase the type size to make reading in poor light easier.
Haven't put the Pentax manual on mine - I have that on a USB stick along with things like a PDF copy of my passport, since my netbook normally travels with me too.

Gwyn, I have been thinking about one for a long time I saw the Sony in Waterstones ages ago, but they stopped selling them. So i concluded that there was only the Kindle left with its world dominiating parent company! This thread has got me looking agian at what is around - i'm amazed and bewildired by what is available.

I have a Kindle which is good too the think I like about the kindle is its not backlit so you can read it outside PDF can be read on it too but I mainly have magazines that are PDF and being colour I prefer to read them on my ipad. But I do have my camera manual on my phone. I love gadgets.

The advantage of Sony or Kobo readers is that you aren't tied to one book seller. You can't buy books from Amazon, but there are so many others out there you can buy from.
My husband and I share books, since we both have readers using Adobe DRM.
He was given a Samsung e-reader (which he wouldn't have chosen for himself) when he left a company after a long contract there, so I then got a Sony reader just so we could share books. They are both e-ink readers not colour readers and though his can connect to the net mine can't and it is easier to download the books via the computer anyway.
The new Sony seems excellent. Mine is the older model, but I still love it.

Our daughter had friends using the Kindle but recommended that she go for the Kobo. I think hers came from W.H. Smith.
