Reminds me of the dyslexic agnostic insomniac who lay awake all night wondering if there was a dog !

1) agree with Gwyn ( as always ! )
2)Since no-one has ever "filled" their brain capacity as far as we know one could assume infinite capacity as information rarely brought to the frontal lobes would be either discarded or over-written surely?
3)It doesn`t matter as time is a man-made universally agreed measurement without any relevance to the planet - therefore it is always time for a drink somewhere - especially at HG`s

The last ice age* was a blip, viewed from the perspective of a palaeontologist. It lasted a mere 10,000 years, or so.

Just trying to pay my half of water bill online, todays the deadline even though it only falls due tomorrow. I've paid it online for years, but it seems that they have re-designed the site to make it impossible to pay them. First I can't paste details properly into the boxes and then it won't accept the payment I get:

Sorry you have attempted to submit a payment 3 times
without success using the same card, please re-try
using another card or re-try later.

I don't have another card.... idiot and there's nothing
wrong with the one I used

In the last week I've had trouble with the computer systems
of my bank, the Post Office and now the water company

Back to cheques and post in future

It always amazes me that in this modern age when you can but just about anything online, the big utilities companies manage to stuff up their payment systems so regularly!

When I can order and pay for something from China in a few seconds, why does the gas/ electric bill take several attempts and re-starts??

And you can't just walk into a showroom and pay with cash either!!!

I want to know why EDF's website has a habit of problems on the last Saturday in the month - the day I input my readings

Notice - the last Saturday - no matter the date - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Why do you need to put in readings monthly?

I read the meters once a year, all three (well four since I have a double electric meter), go to the website, put in the readings and I'm done. They said me a statement saying they owe me money, adjust my monthly payment accordingly and we're done for another year.

We've just done our tax returns too - downloaded the forms already filled in, checked they were correct, altered a couple of things (like the rates value of the house, which has gone down ) and sent it off. We owe them money (due to His Nibs UK pension) so will get a bill before July. Most people get money back and will get that by June.

I'm all in favour of this interweb lark.

Sorted eventually in about 30 seconds

There was a phone number on the bill where you can actually
SPEAK TO A PERSON! she was very good as well....
just took down my account no...card no.... expiry date....
no. on back of card.... amount and that was it done

Why does the website require you to:
Resister first.
(Cut & Paste disabled on the boxes for some reason Argh!!!)
Fill in email addy
Fill in email addy again
Enter a password
Supply mothers maiden name.
Fill in name and full address by fitting 5 lines into 4
Telephone number
Mobile number
Account number
Bill ref. number
Wait for confirmation email
Go through confirmation procedure
=================
The above will be changed by next year so it's no use really
=================
Look through site for hard to find "Pay Us Some Money" button
Login:
Fill in email addy
Enter a password

"Says you've entered it wrong"

Go to another part "Pay by Credit Card"

LOOP: Begin Payment by Credit Card
Fill in Bill ref. number
Fill in Account number
Fill in name and full address
Fill in card number...
Fill in expiry date....
Fill in number on back of card....
Fill in Amount

Site says it has a problem with card... Repeat "LOOP: Begin Payment by Credit Card"

After going through the loop 3 times it kicks you off!

I even tried paying via Barclays, but that's another story
asked me questions I couldn't answer such as was the reference
in the format "xxxxxxxxx" or "xxxxxxxxxxx" I think they meant
the reference I was going to use, but I hadn't got a clue what
that was so I logged off. They then asked me 50 questions
about what I thought of the service? (must be wondering why
so many people are leaving).

I don't know how I'd manage if I wasn't computer savvy

I taxed the car online yesterday and the DVLA site is brilliant 10/10

Oh I so agree about the DVLA Site - can't be improved - it just works [ and I didn't need to look for my MOT Cert from last year which disappeared }

Gwyn - for some reason EDF keep sending me bills [ and yes I signed up for paperless billing ] and messing my payments up if I don't put my readings in

The only complaint about the DVLA site is finding it.

Like all other government sites you seem to have to wade through loads of irrelevant pages before you find it, that is if you don't have the direct link.

But once there it just works...
