Did you read the handbook?

Wouldn't it be cheaper for you to rent a car when you need one rather than having one depreciating on the drive which is never used?

Gwyn and Ken, thanks for your posts.

Gwyn.

Yes, read the hand book, but the screen that came up did not match the screen in the hand book flow chart, so tried to escape which, locked up the computer, thought that by switching of the ignition would clear it, but no such luck. I am sure the dealer will be able to sort, its just the embarrassment factor.

Yes it would make more sense to rent a car, but the snag is, I am now only permitted to drive an auto, and use a left foot accelerator and left foot for breaking.
Had to have a driving test/assessment before using this, I was a bit apprehensive because it was fifty years since I took my original test, the test was carried out by a police driving examiner, normal time taken to pass is five one hour sessions, but cleared mine on the first one hour session, had a rating up to normal police driving standard. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

Now hold a licence to this effect. No option of hiring a car. So have to grin and bare the depreciation.

Reason for the above, I have (Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis).

Ken.

No, there is a big warning in the hand book and on the on the battery cover, that the battery must only be disconnect by an approved dealer, or the electronic hand brake, gear box control and the auto eco engine stop start will system/ programme will be lost.
As far as I can see, what ever I have done to the on board computer, has not effected this. But thanks for the suggestion.
Just noticed in my previous post I said it was a Peugeot 3008, but it is the 30008.

Oh for the simplicity of the VW Beetle I had many moons ago.

Take care both, and many thanks.

Thank Goodness for the Bus Pass
Here, here. Snag is the road is closed and the buses aren't running -quite as smoothly.

I leave all my clocks, where possible, set to GMT it saves no end of hassle.

Except the one on the mantle shelf. But then the PC insists on changing itself, The DVD and the clock in the car, which are supposed to autochange, doesn't anymore, so have to be manually twiddled with and are invariably a minute out by the time we've finished

Oh the car one didn't need changing it was still on summer time as I'd not changed it back after the summer .

Freda is now all nice and clean , inside and out . The price of the service didn't worry me - it was all the filters and the oil that whacked the cost up , but if she's only serviced once a year I just have to stump up the cash for them .

Chris, thanks for the explanation though there was no need. I am glad you are still able to drive.
I think I'd just leave the clock alone if it was that difficult to change.
My old Renault is easy - one press of a button and it's done. In the Priuses in the past and the current Auris hybrid it's a bit more complicated but still pretty easy. The main clock is done with a single button, the GPS needs the time zone resetting which is also fairy easy once you know how.
Ask your dealer to show you how to do the clock for October .

So you put a "tasteful" christmas, birthday etc etc card on your website and all your friends can see it postage free
Then the cost of email will increase too

Looks like a good way of shutting up shop to me, but, I wonder, how does that cost compare with our European cousins.

Considering the cost in 1950's was about 1/3-1/2 the price of a Mars bar and even in the 1970's (mainly due to decimalisation) it rose from 3p to 9p, still below the Mars bar standard.

The people who run the PO must be absolute dunces They must lose millions by allowing old stamps to be used after a price rise, because they only print "1st Class" on them

http://www.postoffice.co.uk/

When you go onto their site to check on how much it will cost to post something it looks like the design brief was for it not to look like they just delivered stuff? Win a Kindle.... Win Travel Insurance.... Inflation linked bond ...... It's very hard to find any actual postage rates? There's a link to "Price Finder", but it doesn't work I've started using an accountants site for postal rates.

The PO used to have a PDF printable as an A3 poster containing all the rates, but I've never been able to find it for about 4 years It should be there on the very first page as a download link

Then there was all the nonsense about changing the name to Consignia
Half Man... Half Pentax ... Half Cucumber

Bearing in mind you have to buy stamps up front, I bet you've got several unused ones in a drawer somewhere, so think of the profit in paid for and lost stamps. Then add in the thousands/millions bought by collectors which never see a delivery

One "rub" I see coming is that we all go out and stock up on oodles of stamps to keep us going then they are sold off to say DHL. Will DHL honour the use of stamps bought in advance from what was once a rival company. (Note, Insert any company you wish for DHL, the use here of which is not meant to promote or denigrate this company - my caveat over)

As an ex collector I have lots of "spare" stamps and last time I looked on ebay they were going at less than face value, especially the "Prestige Booklets" etc,. Time to dig them out for postage I think.

You can only use the post decimal ones Stan, I think you can also get rid of 1/2p ones providing they add up to the appropriate value. Snag is you probably have to use a large envelope (which will cost more).

I think I'll save my collection for my grand kids, it'll be a museum item by then and might be worth a few bob. Or it might be if I ever get round to sorting out the placky bags and choc boxes full of unsorted ones that I've put by awaiting a rainy day when I can spare the time to sort them.

A lot of the stamps are in 50p and £1 booklets (machine vended) and as the postage increased there weren't so many stamps to make up the page
I got rid of the pre-decimal collections when I retired, something like 23 Lindner Albums and a few odds and sods.
The decimal denominations were all bought at face value including the first "window" books. Any pre-decimal that I come across I'll give to Liz to hand in at her church.

The online price finder was down for a revamp but that was several weeks ago, I use it quite often and have never had any bother with it except for the time it was down.

Call in to your local PO, they should have a "Pricing made easy" leaflet, it even covers Airmail etc. Having said that mine is dated to April 2011 so they may be waiting for updated ones

Yes, I use Price Finder as well and normally it's very effective. It even takes us to Parcel Force when necessary.

From the homepage

http://www.postoffice.co.uk/

If I choose the Menu "Letters & Parcels" it gives a dropdown
list with "Price Finder" on the bottom. When I click that it
just reloads the Homepage with a new advert. It doesn't even
show anything on the Firefox back button? This is on XP Pro.
Same using Opera

The PDF on the Desktop was much better and faster, because
you could compare different methods of sending as well.

The mobile version on a PC is even odder......
No mention of delivering stuff.....

http://m.postoffice.co.uk/

Just
Branch Finder
Postcode Finder
Currency Converter

Maybe they are too busy to deliver the mail.....
Probably spending all their time keeping up with
Currency Conversion Rates (Who pays for that?)
