Another pointless thread

I think if you get left hand lay rope the problen isn't so bad, I seem to recall it was used for lifeboat falls. With a 3 fold purchase there is a way to reeve the rope so it minimises the twist but it is the nature of rope to twist itself into a "thicker" rope. If its not too high a lift can you not have a tag line attached to the hook for pulling the hook down, I'm assuming you are working single handed and have to load the hook, if you have a helper they can pull down on the tag line. All this is going back to my pre-sea training int early 60's. If you know any rigger's they could probably advise.

I'm not exactly sure what you are doing, but it sounds like you need a rope that doesn't twist If you look at the large Auctiva pics of this Haltrac hoist on ebay you can see the type of cord they have used.

The organiser of the world marmalade awards has just been
on Radio 2 promoting it. Takes place in Cumbria in 2-3 days
time. She gave the website out, but it isn't working which
made her promotion and the time of 8 million listeners a
bit of a waste

Looks interesting this is another site that has pictures of
last years:

Blasted 'Computer Maintenance Company '

A gentleman [ I think from the Indian sub-continent] phoned me a short time ago.

My Computer was sending them messages - yes you know the spiel , but I decided to have some fun - again.

I let him tell me about the 'nasties' that they were hearing about and then oh so sweetly asked what it was telling them at this moment .

So he told me to go and switch it on

I then asked if he would answer the question I had asked him - so he told me I wasn't listening to him

I said he wasn't listening to me so would he please tell me what messages my computer was telling him now

He spluttered and asked what I meant so I told him that the computer had been switched on for the last hour - so repeated the question " What is it telling you NOW "

Before I could put the phone to mute he slammed his phone down .

I'm not sure what I've done to deserve that . Do you think he was offended ?

He phoned me the other week. I'm afraid I didn't even engage in conversation with him, just hung up on him mid spiel.

Bernard, could you not, when the ropes/pullies are not loaded/in use, put a temporary load on, a small sandbag perhaps?
That way, the system will always "think" it's loaded......

Gwyn - in a way I feel sorry for them - they must get fed up with folk slamming down the phone .

One, just after I got home last week, told me I was using a Mac but he could give me an exe. file which would allow him to sort out my nasties. I'm afraid I actually laughed .

Some folk must believe them or these calls would not continue

Someone my wife works with had a similar call and fell for an Indian "gentleman" claiming to be from Microsoft Premium Customer Support, wanting to check they had the latest security update. Needless to say the file she opened "detected" a security flaw and in a panic she gave her credit card details in exchange for some "enhanced protection" software. Meantime her account was emptied.

Had the same call myself and put the phone down. I always like to ask them who they wish to speak to first though, so I know if they're fishing blind with an auto dialler, or if my actual name is on a list. Mostly they give you a random name so it's obvious they're just trawling, which is a small comfort at least.

If I had a button available to actually blow up the scammers on the end of my telephone I'd be pressing it gleefully!
Better equipment enhances my ability to display my shortcomings.

They can't get anywhere near as fed up as the people they are calling

I'm just waiting for my Scan to complete - it's well over 90% through and so far nothing found [ as I expected ]

I'll try that.
The system is for hauling timber into my workshop loft. Max load 30-40lb, but more than I fancy whilst climbing a ladder. Unloaded it lives in the roof space and it bugs me that I have to climb into the loft to bring it down then back up again when I'm ready to haul up. The when finished get it back up again whlst it's trying to twist up. I tried to get woven rope (climbers stuff) but I need 1/4 diameter to fit the pulleys.
