All illegal in Scotland now! No longer allowed to do multi-deals on alcohol. So they just match the lowest price in England. I think the policy make have backfired somewhat!
I discovered that in Tesco you cant double the value of your clubcard point instore for alcohol. You can do it online and print off your own vouchers and take them to the shop. Daft.

Tesco and M&S can no longer show the wine in the £10 dine-in deal beside the food so you have to go the next aisle to pick it up. Daft too.

Why do they blame alcohol for all the trouble?

If they let the hot heads drink nothing but water they'd still cause chaos!!

Why not put them all in a pit with big sticks and then leave the rest of us to enjoy our odd pint or seven in piece?
Why blame alcohol? BBC

There was a very good program on one of the History channels last week about how BEER was responsible for building the world

The workers on the pyramids were fed beer as food.

Water in the UK until recent centuries was undrinkable so
everyone drunk beer.

Water wouldn't keep long enough on explorer ships they had to rely
on beer.

Factory production lines and bottle making were first invented
for beer production.

I think it said three of the early US Presidents owned breweries.

I think this was the one: link

I believe it was that great philosopher Homer Simpson who said:

"Beer - the cause of, and the solution to all of life's problems"

Here in Burton the breweries were monastic creations and I recall reading somewhere that the daily allowance per monk was 8 pints.

There's no real evidence that the church was significantly more aggresive than the local gentry (although they were probably "tanked" as well)

It has also been said that drinking the water in Burton (until the Victorians sunk bore holes, it was from the River Trent) was unwise because those in Stoke used it for all sorts of things.

But then I suppose those in Nottingham & Newark had to put up with the effluent from Burton

It mentioned on that program that monks used to do most of the brewing until the breweries
started up a few hundred years ago.

They used to give free beer to people at church on Sundays

You have to remember though that beer in the past was no where near as alcoholic as it is now.
The beer people drank instead of water was small beer or small ale, which was very nutritious and very low in alcohol. It didn't normally contain hops either.

It was strong enough to kill off any bacteria in the water.
On the TV program they took heavily contaminated water from
a duck pond and made beer from it which was safe to drink

When the first settlers went to America they made beer from acorns,
not realising that the water from streams etc. was safe to drink.

These were added (as indeed still are) as flavouring. The bitterness imparted balancing the sweetness of the malt. They also were used, like many other plants, for their herbal properties and are now known to have some antibiotic properties

Mead (honey bear) was also brewed in early times and could be in excess of 15%.

I thought most yobbish behavour came after drinking lager, which is generally low alcohol compared with other drinks?

What I was getting at was alcohol, be it beer wine or spirits, gets the blame for the moronic behaviour of a minority, so the majority that never go 'out' have to suffer through higher pricing and stupid legislation.

On that 'stupid ' theme, I had to get an assistant to OK my purchase of chocolate liquors at the self-serve check outs last week. They have alcohol in them see so I might get drunk on one and cause a fight...

I don't usually do event photography but I was asked to do my daughter's school prom last night. The 308 picture gallery on my web site has taken an amazing 16203 page views since 11.00AM today. I bet I still dont get rich.
