Normally they have fail safe mechanisms that stop them going in high winds. I've played, making smaller savonius rotors in the past. I saw on the news yesterday a wind tubine catching fire - now there's a funny thing (well not too funny if your power is off because of it, but it wasn't generasting anyway)
The better home-made wind generators include furling mechanisms which when the wind blows harder the tail pushes the blades more incidental to the wind and lessening the speed. The commercial ones must have servo systems to shut them down.
Looking at the way this one disintegrated made me feel pretty safe as it was such an unusual event considering the natural forces on it.
I like to think it was somewhat less damaging, less costly and less environmentally disasterous than the Fukashima event.
Lurking is shirking.!

I just won €100 on the lottery .
Been doing the lottery for years and the most I've won before was the price of the ticket.
Whilst a few more zeros after the 1 would have been nice I am still a happy bunny.
Congratulations Now be sure to invest it wisely, as we would all do

Todays equivalent would be Dollars and Euros, all the power suppliers seem to be owned by foreign companies!!
I'd like a turbine, but we haven't got room, that and the neighbours would complain about the blades whizzing through their gardens!!
Looking forward, the BBC christmas looks promising.

When we made radio telephone calls via Norway for instance the charge was calculated in Gold Francs. Once we got the Sat Phone it was a lot easier £1.65 per minute or part of. Not easier on the pocket but it's nice to phone home. If anyone phoned the ship the charge was around £2.50 per minute. That was 6 years ago don't suppose charges have fallen very much.

We get ours from Scottish Power, which I thought was still British until I received an email in response to a query I raised -all the power suppliers seem to be owned by foreign companies!!

You haven't accidentally set it to some other keyboard type have you?
If you are using Windows then bottom right you will see a little keyboard symbol. Hover over it. It should say US-International. If it doesn't click on it and choose that setting.
If it does say US-International then yes your keyboard is broken.
