I'm seriously pissed off, both our cars were hit last night by a stolen car which was left abandoned and wrapped around a lamp post outside our house.
A passing driving teacher witnessed 5 Asian youths get out of it and 'saunter off'.
The police arrived pretty quickly and one of them told me he was 99% certain who had been driving it. He had impounded this car two weeks ago after they stopped it and the driver ran off. They caught him and he had been driving without a license or insurance. It was his partner's car and they charged him with stealing it too.
Looks like he's been at it again. As the police pointed out, the days of hot-wiring are long gone; you can't drive a modern car without the keys. The most staggering thing I learned is that there is only one traffic patrol car covering the entire southern side of Glasgow at night!
As soon as it's light I'll properly assess the damage but it could well be a combined excess of £450 and two dented NCDs. I took some photos for insurance purposes but reflective number plates really play havoc with the dreaded P-TTL!

Ken - that's really not funny
The thought of only 1 car covering the South of Glasgow is frankly alarming.
I'll admit freely that my Insurance insists that Freda is kept locked and inside my garage overnight when I'm at home

So far only had one car stolen, quite a few years ago now. We were staying at a local hotel and when a policeman finally arrived he said "Well, there was a disco last night, and it was raining". The amazing thing was later that morning we were visiting a friend who lived 9 miles away from where the car was taken and the car slowed down to allow us to cross the road! It was found abandoned very soon afterwards, a couple of miles away. All the junk was gone from inside, boot and glove compartment, the only thing worth nicking was a mini socket set and they'd left that for some strange reason. We sold the car not long afterwards.

What make/colours were the cars?
Silver Mercedes Benz ML320 with a black Smart for Two Cabriolet in the boot. Actually in the light of day the MB is unmarked but the Smart needs a new front wing. The just screw on and only cost £57 with another £90 for paint so I won't be claiming the insurance. I've put pictures in my gallery. What make/colours were the cars?
@ tyronet2000, the same MB was broken into minutes after I'd just removed almost every piece of photographic equipment I own, I guess I was being watched. Like you it was totally cleaned out, even the manual, service record and jack. Biggest hassle was losing all my bank cards, driving license, house keys and studio keys two days before going on holiday.

Good news that the damage is not as bad as expected Ken, but still a bummer.
My husband's car was broken into once in a dodgy part of Amsterdam. They stole the radio and that was it. But then there was nothing else in it because it was a dodgy part of Amsterdam. The radio was integral to the dashboard so it made a mess, but it was all quickly fixed. The police didn't even come out. It was all handled by phone. Nowadays it is all done on the net.
The house was also broken into once when we were at home. I disturbed the thief. All credit to the cops that night - we had three cars here in no time and they search thoroughly for the guy but didn't find him. We lost a laptop, two phones and my purse that night.

I was changing a wheel when I heard someone inside the car, when I saked what he was doing he said "If you're having the wheels, I'm having the radio"
Ken, all that was in the car and taken: 2 pair x £1 sunglasses ex market stall, a torch which was about 4yrs old batteries corroded solid, a broken umbrella, some pirate (ex dubai) cassette tapes warped from being on rear parcel shelf all summer and the funniest thing, from the glove compartment, an opal fruit (re-named starburst) which was part out the wrapper and melted, always meant to clean that out but..... It's an ill wind etc. Still use the mini socket set occasionally
Quickest arrival at scene, I had an accident with a policeman on his bike, 6 cars arrived within 3 minutes. I didn't know we had so many

Most I ever saw was when I was shooting a scene for a TV programme with a prop police car. We borrowed one of the 'Taggart' cars which you drive to location with the stripes but no police badges or signs and no blue lights. We were parked outside a post office and were putting all the police stuff on it when the post master, for some bizarre reason, thought we were going to rob him.
The only thing that didn't turn up was a policeman on a horse!
The police media office had forgotten to tell anyone what we were doing.

Just looked at your photos Ken. Looks like you got away lightly thank heavens.
I guess the owner of the stolen car regarded themselves as a cool customer .
Be grateful he hit parked cars with only material damage (even if they were you parked cars!), not a car with a driver in it or even worse a pedestrian.

He knocked the Smart into the MB and then bounced across the road and hit the lamp post quite hard. Not hard enough because there was no sign of any blood.

Hi Ken
Once you have the invoices for the repairs then you could approach the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB - submit a claim section) if the police do trace the driver then there is no excess but if they do not trace the driver the 'untraced drivers agreement' has a £300 excess on any claim but it won't affect your own policy.
Let's hope they catch him as your damages do seem to fall below the MIB excess otherwise.
Regards

Turned out the "club" was to teach us to play clasial guitar which, after being taught how to tune, was eventually getting results which my parents would sit through, and even my brother tolerated.
Then came The Shadows, Bob Dylan and any number of others so classical concentration waned dramatically. Probably just as well as I had (still have) fingers like Popeye and the singing vioce of a frog in a tin can
