I'd adopt her with pleasure but the other half is happy with just one cat.

Infact Merlin who lives(?) next door wants us to adopt him, George has other thoughts on that!

I think for the time being we're a one cat house.

Currently listening to 'Old Harry's Game' on MP3, Andy Hamilton is just superb.
Cheers, HG

He is isn't he . One of my favourite Radio 4 progs and a funny one in the late night comedy slot, which is more than can be said for most of the offerings then. Good job I usually fall asleep during them.

As for the Oldham connection His Nibs was born and brought up there - I spend my time trying to avoid it.

The cousin is his mother's brother's child. Ma-in-law didn't talk to her brother after some family spat. It was only when her sister came to stay after we'd been married a while that I found out there was an Uncle and a couple more cousins. Aunty J kept referring to Our Frank. I said who? And got the whole sorry tale.

His nibs only had 4 cousins (3 still alive) and I've never met any of them. I on the other hand have what seems like hundreds and he has met them all. Families! Who'd 'ave 'em???

Was having a rummage in an odds & sods box and found a tie/lapel pin which I'm sure I got around 1990, same time as my first and only "proper" film SLR camera, a Pentax SFXn. The pin is an oval shape with a union jack background. On the horizontal bar of St George's Cross are the letters B.A.P.A which I'm sure has/had something to do with photography. Can anyone enlighten me as to what it represented.

Back from India. No tigers to be seen (which was a shame as it was one of the main reasons I wanted to go) and I was ill almost the entire time (I think it started with a cold I caught from the children) but it was well worth while.

Have to say, if you haven't seen it the Taj Mahal is much morre impressive than you can imagine. It's not until you get close you can really appreciate it!

Uploading the photos now. Hopefully get them online in the next few days.

Welcome back Gareth. What a shame about the tigers. You'll just have to go again .

His Nibs is now ensconced in his business class seat ready to fly to Cartagena, via Panama City. Two more countries he's been to and I haven't . No way I was paying €4500 for the flight, though at the moment 30C and sun does sound very attractive.

One of my PDI came in third place in our local club competition

Premier Ink and Photographic have some deals on Manfroto tripods ( I am looking for a decent one) ignoring price which is the more practical for general photography, snaps to macro

190XPROB & 804RC2, 190XPROB & 496RC2, 055XPROB & 804RC2, or

055XPROB & 496RC2. also a free bag or spirit level with each order

Or would a different brand (same sort of price) be a better choice :

That depends on how tall you are, and how much weight you want to lug amongst other things.
The 190 is lighter but shorter. The 055 is taller but heavier.
Taller means you bend less and need to use the centre column less - the less you use the centre column the lower the wobble factor.
Can't help with the heads I'm afraid. I personally prefer a ball head, but some prefer a pan/tilt.

I have Velbon Carbon tripod with a Markins ball head on it. I could have got another camera for the price of the combo, but it is worth it's weight to me. I have removed the centre column completely as it is more than tall enough without it.

Now back to pointlessness - it is a dark old day here - I have the lights on still.

Its bright and sunny here - not conducive to work!

My partner uses a Manfroto 055CX Pro 3, he is over 6' and finds it really useful across the range, for macro he adds a macro positioning plate. Its carbon fibre so light as well.

Me - havent got to grips with tripods yet!
