I haven't a musical bone in my body..

...I can't read music, sing or play any instrument...

.......except the ukelele!!!

Taking of bad music, the boss is watching, dare I say it?

That's why I'm sat here.

I wanted to play the guitar at school as it was the early 60s and I wanted to be in a pop group but all the places were taken. All that was left was the violin and I played Silent Night in the school Christmas concert. I then gave up wanting to be a pop star

I can't read music and play at the same time so I memorise the main bits and usually it doesn't sound too bad on the keyboard, bearing in mind I wear two hearing aids, but not while I'm playing

love to hear a twiddle on the fiddle by a virtuoso will put my ears on for that

I'm not musical either. I gave up violin as soon as I could, much to everyone's relief.
I played bass guitar for quite a while until the arthritis got too bad, but I'm not musical.
His nibs however and a couple of my sons are so musical it's just not fair.

HG -did you see the programme on George Formby the other night? It was great to see so many young kids learning the Uke. Much better instrument to learn than the recorder .

Roger Cook was on Singers/Songwriters at the BBC a couple of weeks ago - he plays Uke and wrote all his huge hits on it!

A well played Uke is a wonderful thing. I suppose pedantically speaking George Formby played a Banjo Ukulele not a Ukulele, but either instrument is great. I love the Ukulele orchestra of Great Britain too.

Sad I know .

unfortunately my other half made me get rid of my uke, something about 'That b****y racket'

My singing that is not the uke, I think.

I'd forgotten I had a bass guitar when in my youth, I was in a band at school that lasted 9 months, then we left and never re-formed.

Ah what the music world lost...

... thank heavens!

In recent times the Uke was made popular by people likes
George Harrison who carried several around with him in the
car boot and used to leave them at peoples houses so that
they would be there when needed. Joe Brown also uses the
Uke a lot.

Just spent a sweaty couple of minutes updating the firmware in a *ist DL2 Everything went as it should and can now use high capacity sd cards It's a nice feeling when the "COMPLETE" message shows on the LCD, rather like recovering from Man Flu.

I still have my dad`s banjolele upon which I learned the rudiments of chords and the "George Formby Flick".I was then given a Spanish Guitar for Christmas by my granddad and they all laughed on the 25th Dec when I plonked all the strings !!!
Six months later, many plays of Apache and Bert Weedon`s "Play in a Day" book I assembled them all again for some tunes and got a round of applause !!!
I did have a couple of dodgy pop groups, played folk at college as nobody wanted another poor imitation of Hank Marvin, and eventually teamed up in 1972 with a local schoolmistress and played to the village hall on a selection of instruments including autoharp ( still got )5 string banjo and kazoo.
I now have a Fender acoustic but rarely play as my fingers are soft and a bit clumsy.

I was once compared to Eric Clapton in a guitar shop once.
The owner said you sound sod all like clapton AND GET OUT .

I remember Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) once saying on the radio that
he'd gone into a studio, just after Eric Clapton had used it and that
the great man had left his Fender and amp set up with all the knobs
on guitar amp and pedals at his favourite positions. Dave Stewart said to
himself "Dare I.... I'll never get the chance again.... Sod it
I'll have to have a go! " so he picked up the guitar and had a play
and then he said to the radio interviewer "You know.... I didn't sound
a bit like him!
"

Same with photographers .

His Nibs has several guitars including Martin and Fender acoustics, a Strat and a Gibson.
But to my ears the best sound comes from his ancient, beaten up old Hofner acoustic.

He also has a timple, which is a bit like a 5 string uke.

I still have my Fender bass, but it is getting very dusty. He won't let me sell it though.

The guitarist (Brian Griffiths) in one of the best Liverpool live bands
in the 60's (The Big Three) played nothing other than Hofners and he
played them brilliantly. He's shown playing a Colorama on the front
of the EP this tunes from, and it was probably the quitar used on
the live recording. He used to play lead and rythmn at
the same time :

This is a later acoustic tune by him unlikely to be on a Hofner
but quite nice:

Very nice Algi. Before my time of course.

I just sent a link to the second one to his Nibs. He says he will learn it when he gets home.
