I am honestly begining to wonder, they look like nuts but this is the worst year I've known for lack of birds in the garden. The fat balls were untouched too. Getting a few starlings a sparrow or two and saw a robin yesterday but that has been it. Maybe when the weather gets worse?

There weren't many birds in our garden for about half an hour the other day.....
not until the sparrowhawk had been gone for a while!

K7, 55-300.

Just had time to grab a shot but no time, unfortunately, to clean the (double-glazed) window beforehand!

Some blackbirds have come back to my garden. One young female is very
friendly so I think it's one that's been here before. No idea
where it's been

Good capture of the sparrowhawk Roger.... no time to prepare
for shots like that

I remember the time - many years ago - I was woken with a scream from the kitchen on the lines of " come and see this". I rushed downstairs with my usual lack of night attire ( ??? ) to witness a sparrowhawk standing on a pigeon about 12 feet from the kitchen window and methodically tearing feathers off.I grabbed my tripod and ESII , focussed quickly , pressed the shutter and got 1 shot before the film ran out....................grabbed the ES and repeated the actions - one shot left in that one as well !!!!! I still have the two rather dodgy shots somewhere to this day - the bird finished its preparations, grabbed the snack and flew down the garden at about 18" above the lawn, never to be seen again - maybe put off by my fleshy appearance !

We just get the occasional buzzard visiting us. It doesn't seem to put the resident birds off though.

Anyone want an unfranked UK Christmas stamp? I think they were so shocked they forgot to stamp it. Even the postman here didn't scribble all over it.
Of course no postmark means I have no idea when it was posted. Maybe it is from last Christmas .

This was from His Nibs' cousin in Oldham.
I have never met the woman. In fact I didn't even know she existed until we'd been married 6 months .
I expect the US and Ozzie ones will be arriving soon. They are always very keen to post early for Christmas, forgetting that the card gets put on a plane nowadays, not a ship .

Maybe you should look up the Oldham connection, after all it's almost in God's own county!

The strange cat has been sorted. Molly's owners moved 3 months ago but she can't get her head around it. It's the third time she's headed back to our street!

My better half managed to get a phone number off her collar and repatriate her. I hope she doesn't come back again, it's a bit wearing when you're not sure whether to feed her or not.
Cheers, HG

I think the cat is trying to adopt you. If you can cope with another cat why not have a word with the previous food providers and see if they will let the adoption go ahead

Have they rubbed butter on her paws and tried to keep her indoors until all the curtains and their nerves are completely shredded by the constant screeching of the cat to be let out. Cat litter trays are not much use during this period.
