Another pointless thread

Sorry to ask a serious question, but does Google check spelling in US English, British English or that mysterious beast "International English"?
Best regards, John

No idea what Chrome offers but Firefox has British English, US English, even Australian English.

It also has Dutch, and automatically detects which spelling checker to use!

As ChrisA said they are spelling checkers not grammar checkers, and since its is a correct word it doesn't offer an alternative.

So Gwyn, should your use of 'its' not be in inverted commas like what I have just done or did you mis type 'it'?

Somehow this reminds me of a Glaswegian expression which would baffle anyone let alone a grammar checker: 'Away and answer the door, I'm in the middle of my tea' It makes perfect sense to me.

Don't worry Ken, it makes perfect sense to me too. Did we import the expression to Norn Iron from you, or was it one of our exports?

Glad to hear that, I can now hear it it a Northern Irish accent. I think you got it from us with when Protestant Scots were sent to... well you know what!

I recently read that that favoured, allegedly Gaelic word, 'craic' isn't Gaelic at all but actually Ulster Scots and you might enjoy this: a senior ex-colleague of mine at a major Scottish broadcaster drove around Bangor looking for the Celtic Media Festival without success and eventually phoned the office to be told she was in the wrong country, she was in Wales.

On my way to Loxley Colour Labs to pick up some orders, I'm annoyed that they have moved out of Glasgow four minutes from me to Cumbernauld of all places, I was stuck behind an Irn-Bru lorry. The Irn-Bru refinery is next door to Loxley.

Some of you might remember that I'm involved with Guide Dogs although it vexes me that I still haven't been able to ask a client if I can bring my guide dog on the shoot.

Anyway the Irn-Bru tanker has a loose, head and shoulders shot of a guide dog on the back with the caption, 'When he's out refereeing, I drink all his Irn-Bru' Quite funny but I did feel a wee bit annoyed.

I quite enjoy a pint of Fosters, its refreshing and doesn't get you hammered, look on the bright side things could always be worse, it could have been a tanker full of Skol

OOOOOh skol - that brings back memories

I have to admit that you are what you drink and I'm a 'bitter man'

OK less of the poor humour - if you do get a tanker full of Fosters Alan I am sure I could switch codes back to lager and give you a hand if wanted/needed one

Actually I think it is time to go get a Brains SA Gold from my fridge - back soon

Worst beer I ever tasted was a Double Diamond in the seamen's club, Dubai. In the Faeroe Islands they use to sell a liquid in a bottle with which you could quite possibly drown before you felt any effect at all. Newcastle Brown Ale ? Always over priced and over rated. All lager, drink one pint pee two. Irish Happy Hour, Two for the price of Three
