Some gout is has an heredity factor and can affect you young, but most gout affects people when they are older - men, post menopausal women, those who drink a lot, are overweight or have diabetes (or any combination thereof) are most likely to suffer from an attack of gout.
Beer is more of a problem than say Port or red wine. Red meat and seafood also contribute to the chances of getting gout.
You are at greater risk of kidney stones if you have gout, and vice versa.

Perhaps just as well I've got pills that control it then.
I just wish they'd diagnosed it 10 years earlier I might have been a world famous footballer, if I could've be bothered to kick a ball about.
Now there's a tack to follow :-

PS youngsters with a fighting chance of retaking the subject would be better served swotting:

We knew that Barrie, we aren't ignoramuses.
And you did mention gout - which is no laughing matter for those who suffer.
Downside of an e-book - when the battery runs out just as you get to the nail biting, page turning dénouement .
Now I've got to wait for the battery to recharge before I know if Harry Hole makes it.
OK I know there are more Harry Hole books so of course he makes it but that's not the point!

You are clearly an extremely civilised person, and if you should ever choose to invite me to dinner, I shall accept with alacrity.

He's the one that looks like Bill Bailey.

A few dry days here so the decorators are out in force - lots of sanders going all around, but worst of all is one who seems to be an Elvis impersonator. All I can hear are snippets of assorted Elvis songs, with a backing of sanders.
I suppose I should get my sander out, join in the cacophony and get my front door painted, but it's too windy to paint. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Having had a pretty good attempt at burning my house down the other night I now await the decorators.
Decide to partially cook dinner and go out for a couple of hours and then finish it off on my return. I was in Hamilton's one way system heading the wrong way when a neighbour called to tell me that my house was on fire and there were two fire engines and the police outside. Suddenly everyone else was driving in slow motion but thanks to the new M74 extension I was back in Glasgow in 20 minutes. In a moment of stupidity I'd put the lid on the pot but hadn't turned off the cooker. Amazingly the fire caused no damage other than everything stinking of smoke. The Fire Brigade smashed down the front door though. The cost of making a perfect replica of a very large Victorian door is more than £2000! Direct Line Insurance have been super with a joiner out in a couple of hours to make a temporary door whilst a new one is made.
According to the Fire Brigade we had a good situation with a lid on the pot, no flammable material in the kitchen and a working smoke alarm which was heard by a neighbour who raised the alarm.
I really feel like a total dummy.

It was always a source of amusement (it still is in some quarters) as I was accused of imbibing too much port/stilton - which I'm now quite fond of.
My doctor told me it had nothing to do with either of those delicacies and they can be enjoyed (in moderation) so I was merely repeating his comments
