Another pointless thread

When we lived in England we stoped eating meat completely . Tasteless, , dodgy farming methods, live sheep transported miles up and down the country to gain a few pence per kilo at market, not right in my opinion.
It's not the same here , we eat Goat and Lamb that has lived in the hills around our village, It's not cheap, but I do'nt think it should be ,and it tastes great.....jeff...

Jeff - I love goats meat. I can occasionally get it from the local Moroccan butcher, but he usually sells out fast, or keeps it for his "regulars". Of course it is not raised on a Cretan hillside eating local herbs to improve it's flavour .

We eat less and less meat too, though I can't go completely veggie. The lack of flavour plus the conditions the animals are kept in puts us off. All those poor pigs stuck in Pig flats their entire short and nasty lives, tails docked without anaesthetic, not to mention castrated the same way. Disgusting. As for chicken well .
Luckily for us a friend has just slaughtered their overstock of cockerels and we have a couple of them in the freezer now - truly free range birds, raised on their farm, between the pet pigs and the horses.

We have an excellent local beef farmer - she has a rare breed of beef cattle and the meat is superb, but seriously expensive so that is a real treat. She also sells other organically raised meat from farmers in the area.
I'd rather pay more for the occasional good piece of meat, full of favour and knowing the animal had a good life, than have tasteless factory raised meat daily.
Now if only I could find a good source of organic bacon here...

Yes to that , meat should be expensive ,and in the old days it always was.
Producing good food of any kind is very labour intensive and costly.
Have you ever tried cureing and smokeing your own bacon ? it's not hard on a small scale, and the flavour ...... jeff....

I must admit it didn't totally ring true when I typed it but remembered seeing it on a teeshirt and it seemed apt.

Got to admit I'm an omnivore whose intake is probably more governed by prices, so cereal/vegetable intake is usually much much higher than animal/fish.

An egg is a donation
Bacon is a total comittment

Alcohol intake and gout are unrelated. The latter is due to a build up of uric acid crystals (spiky little devils) in a joint and just as likely to occur in childhood, as did mine

Gout is more common in those who drink alcohol though Bernard.

The Dutch equivalent of la moderation a bien meilleur gout is geniet maar drink met mate. (always better than drinking alone:wink.
