Another pointless thread

I give at the door - not a lot but I usually give to the recognised charities which collect here - they all use volunteers for the work so I don't mind too much. I do always check their licence before giving though .

I have one charity I give to monthly, and another one I give to on a regular basis. I also buy cake from the local water scouts once a year - a) because it is good cake, and b) because my youngest sone would never forgive me if I didn't He was a member then akela and is now something in the greater Scouting organisation, plus leader of the local water scouts.

I don't give to people on the street normally, certainly not to aggressive ones. If I'm in the UK before Christmas I enjoy the Sally-Ann bands playing carols and always give to them.

I went to a photo exhibition today. I had lessons at our local cultural centre for a couple of years and the teacher also runs an annual "atelier" in which she sets the theme and those taking part come up with one or more photos with their interpretation of that theme - so a bit like our competitions but with more guidance, a few trips out together and so on, spread over 5 months. Anyway at the end of it all they exhibit the results during at the Art Route which is held in our local industrial estate every year.

I went along to see the fruits of their labours. A mixed bunch I have to say. Some excellent, some mediocre to say the least.

My teacher was there and is trying to persuade me to join the next one, which starts in January, with the theme self portrait. I have said I'll think about it.

I was hoping to get to another photo exhibition on the route, but spent so long talking to the teacher and old course mates that I never got there.

Tony - it sounds like you had a good day. Glad the appetite is returning. I hope your progress continues and you are soon back to your old self.

We've just had very traditional roast pork, roast tatties and apple sauce, washed down by a very nice Merlot. I got moaned at for not making Sunday dinners any more so I relented on this occasion .

we had lamb and it was really rather good...

Also a very nice selection from Findus in teh veg department - "texas oven vegetables" or so - worked *very* nicely with some extra olive oil, garlic, herbs and some salt & pepper. Surprisingly good. All the more so, considering there's parsnip in it

I would never ever knock the frozen vegetable - cooked properly they have all the freshness and nutrition and often more of so called "fresh" produce that has travelled around the world in nitrogen or spent a couple of weeks reaching the supermarket shelves - convenient, cost effective and good for a change.

Good to see you're eating well Tony, we only had pork in cider with Yorkshire puddings.

You can't beat frozen mushy peas. I don't know how they prepare them but when boiled with a bit of salt they're super with a ham joint.

Meatless Monday for us. Probably stuffed aubergine, but maybe falafel if I can be bothered to make them.

Lamb...what is that?
I rarely see lamb here, and when I do it is hugely expensive and totally tasteless. Unless I fork out on a leg of NZ lamb that is, but that's too much for the two of us. Even using the leftovers for moussaka or similar we seem to be eating lamb for days and the novelty wears off a bit.

I did bring a nice bit of lamb back with us when we were over for the Glasgow meet, along with some good beef and pork with crackling, but that has all gone now. Kids heard we had pork with crackling and they descended upon us like a pack of wolves.
