We've thought about it - but I'd go bananas living there . It would do my arthritis good living there, but not my mental health I fear. I would go stir crazy after a couple of weeks.
Houses are expensive there too, much more so than on mainland Spain. They don't seem to be suffering from the crisis to the same extent, at least not as far as house prices go.

Can't afford to move back to the UK sadly or we would possibly do that.

I guess I shall have to put up with soggy Holland.

Ford still tell you in the manual to drive gently for the 1st thousand miles and still take it easy for the next thousand

So do Toyota, and also not to stay in one gear or at one speed for long periods, but if you have to drive 5-6 hours on the motorway when the car is two days old you have little choice.
It is just bad timing with the arrival of the new car. A week later and he could take it a bit easier - though his daily commute is still 115 minutes each way on a motorway .

I am sure the car will survive just fine. Most company cars get driven like that I'm sure, and a whole lot worse, and last the full lease period - the last one did.

A saw a glimpse of the sun just then .

I would think motorway driving would be OK. The gear box isn't strained in top gear.... on some cars with 5/6 gears it's probably an overdrive gear even though they don't call it that. The engine will only be doing a gentle 3,000/3,500 revs which won't do any harm.

In the mid seventies I went for a test drive in a new VW Scirroco, it only had 4 speeds and was doing 4,000 revs at 70mph, so I had to say no thanks I bought a Lancia Spyder instead which had an overdriven 5th gear and (I think) only did about 3,000 revs at 70. The sad part was that I had to scrap it at 4.5 years old due to rust, so I might have been better with the VW

It's an automatic.

Well he's gone so we'll go back to pointlessness now .

Automatics change up at quite low revs, so there shouldn't be any problems

Sounds like you need to move anyway to get rid of that problem

His next contract could be next door - or 2 hours in the opposite direction. Can't be constantly moving around the country following his contracts - some last years, some only months, no way of knowing when he starts. Now we live in the centre of the country, which makes most sense.
