Another pointless thread

Haven't read it all yet HG but I will, up to day 4 so far!

The whale was probably a harbour porpoise or a pilot whale, though there are Orkas in the North Sea too.

I see Peter Falk (Colombo) has died .

I think I just found the definition of optimism...

An MV1 for £120 BIN? Really? When I paid a fiver for a tidy one with jammed selector dial and another fiver for a mouldy 50mm f2 which cleaned up perfectly?

I've 2 MV1s and 2 MVs, total cost..

...£20, including 2 f1.7 lenses!!

Enjoy Gwyn, The whale was a long way off and seemed too large for a porpoise, what it was is anybody's guess.
Cheers, HG

I picked my Qashqai up from the dealer on a Saturday morning with 4 miles on the clock and drove from Leeds to Plymouth averaging 65-80MPH, the car is now just over a year and 9000 miles older and running as sweet as a tractor (well it is a diesel)

It's funny how that happens. I always advise people who're after an M 50mm to search for ME Supers/MVs/etc as they so often go for less than the lens would on its own. I have an absolutely perfect 50/1.7 which came with a near mint black ME (a small paint chip on the side of the lens mount. That's all) in original case and with original manual and strap. Price was £20!

Bidding has ended on the £120 one with no takers. I would wonder whether they just put the decimal point in the wrong place, as £12 BIN or £8 starting bid would be much more realistic.

That's possible, although there are idiots out there that think any film camera is a 'rare' item and worth mega bucks.

I still think that the MV and MV1 are a point and shoot, but that hasn't stopped me using them and getting great results.

Taken with an MV1 on OOD Fomapan 400, hence the heavy grain.

That used to apply when engines relied on white metal bearings and bores were honed. Today engines don't have brearings and the bores are burnished. so taking it easy will not improve anything. A trip round Vauxall's Ellsmere Port plant told me that

As along as the car lasts two years I don't mind what he does to this one - it's the next one - the one we pay - for that bothers me.

His Nibs is collecting his new company car this afternoon. It was supposed to be delivered in April, but the earthquake put paid to that.

He is off to Limours in France in it on Sunday afternoon. A good job it's a company car because he will beat the **** out of it on the way there and back. I know modern cars don't need a running in period but foot to the floor for several hours when it is 2 days old doesn't strike me as being good for it.

Last company car before he retires.

Sadly yes.

Edit - In fairness to him he really doesn't have a choice about the trip tomorrow - he has to go and because he has a company car he has to use it, brand new or not. And the only way is motorway all the way. He can hardly drive at 80kmph all the way.

It does rather stand to reason that any machine needs time to settle in. Besides which, I can't understand how anyone could get in an unfamiliar car and immediately drive the wheels off it. I've just bought a Subaru Forester Turbo to replace the Discovery and it'll be a few weeks before I'm driving it to its full capability!

The car, although a different model, is the same make, and remarkably similar drive-wise to the previous one. It is only the sat nav, phone and the like which took a while to get sorted.

Of course while he is away summer makes a brief return - 31 tomorrow and Tuesday before returning to rubbish weather again after that.

Really makes me want to move to somewhere where summer is a real season, not just a theory.
