Excellent idea - A41/A442/M5 - 127 miles as opposed to 152 and 3 hours 7 mins not 2 hours 45 - hardly a big increase for a lot less pressure !

Many thanks

Tonight we're off to a fancy dress party.

Er, I think I could be going as Indiana Jones, I have the shirt, hat and trousers...

... but not the looks!

Glad the suggested route found favour.

I've spent a large part of my working life sat behind the wheel of a car racing from home to some distant point and back again in a day. Hated staying over - worst place was Gretna - Travel Lodge there was particularly soleless in my experience. Give me a run down hotel in town every time rather than a Travel Lodge.

Travel Inn, now Premier Inn, used to be good always next to a pub. Years ago, I was booked into a run down hotel at Markinch, Fife one week in February. When I entered the room it was so cold and damp I went looking for the heating. Turned out to be a single bar electric fire connected to a shilling in the slot meter. Never see that before or since.

"Holiday Inn" has always struck me as a rather odd name for the hotel chain in question. I doubt anyone on holiday would stay there voluntarily!

We've stayed a few very nice Holiday Inns in America when touring.

It probably depends on the country then. I know Dad has been booked into a few while working away and hasn't a good word to say for the British arm of the firm!

Please let's keep politics out of it, there are plenty of sites to explore that subject. One post removed.

Pointless or not, I have had many good nights in Holiday Inn, both in UK and elsewhere. It's been some years, maybe they have degraded since.
Best regards
Terry

Been advised that I have just had a second grandchild (boy weighing 6lb 10oz). No idea what colour hair or eyes so we're going to see for ourselves tomorrow
