Another pointless thread

That might have been what they meant. I know they'd worked on the seat fitted to the F14 and apparently done a lot of work on tailoring it to that aircraft.

At least it was an improvement on downward firing ejector seats, as found in some early models...

No brainer to find you Friday then Matt - on the shores of the reservoir on or close to the Elan Dam.

If the weather's good, might just wander up that way myself - the Qashqai need a good run. Been a while since I been that way - preferred the cross country route over to Aberystwyth when I had business in that part of the world. Some good photo ops further on into the hills IRRC.

I might well head for Llyn Brianne instead, it's usually a lot quieter and has the added advantage of looking like a set for a 1970s Dr Who episode (huge and deserted concrete structures in the wilderness). The Abergwesyn Pass should make for some nicely rugged landscapes too.

As long as you're not flying a helicopter!

Personally I think I'd rather take my chance inside the plane.

Never been afraid to land in a field. Although I must admit I've never tried!

There's at least one helicopter with ejector seats, or rather an escape pod. The one seen in "Goldeneye" is accurate - the blades pop off and the entire cockpit launches skyward to land on parachutes.

I always thought the F-111 escape pod was quite nifty. It's all very well being shot clear of your disintegrating aircraft but not terribly helpful if you end up in the middle of nowhere without food or shelter for a day or two before your mates can come and get you. That's without considering the fact that the locals may not be terribly friendly...

Matt - just looked up Abergwesyn - looks v interesting. SWLTBO doesn't seem to bother where I go - near or far, so might just head up to Glos and pick up the A40. So you might have another PU in the area.

Ahh, but Abergwesyn fits with the cars/bikes stuff...

If you're starting from the Llandovery end then follow signs for Llyn Brianne to begin with, once you've finished with the dam/spillway/lake then follow signs for Abergwesyn and Beulah to eventually rejoin the A483. It's like the Aber mountain road but longer and a bit more intense in places (the Devil's Staircase is brilliant going up and scary going down - vertical and with hairpin bends!)

I'll be starting from Beulah, going up the staircase and eventually ending at Llyn Brianne before a short trip to Llandovery then back up the main road.

Methinks the overhead panel would have given you a nasty headache.

Except for the capsule's habit of sinking.

I've just had a couple of roll mops - first course of a pate roll, G & T and can of larger didn't quite fill all the corners...

Matt - as you say, I'll come at it from the Llandovery direction. Printed off this page to take with me so I don't miss anything. Home route looks to be via BW and the A470 > Talgarth > A479 > Crickhowell. As its free to leave Wales, prob take the shorter leg via the Severn Bridge rather than loop back up to Glos.

If you want to go to there, you would be better starting from here. You can get to anywhere from here.

Google Earth is quite good for tracing it, bear in mind your phone probably won't work for most of that loop so you need maps with you. I don't bother now as I know the road pretty well.

Just back from curry and beer with no kids in the house and a holiday tomorrow.

Only downside is not getting paid!

I am getting paid, the roads are very quiet and after a quick coffee it's back to work.

I prefer Carlsberg with Quavers 'spider, the conflicting tastes cancel each other out!

Llyn Brianne was surprisingly busy, but looking at the film counter I think there must be some keepers in there by the law of averages! Trying to get through this roll and one more before they're too horrifically out of date.
