Only about 6 cars on the front area (and 3 4x4 parked by the toilets) when I got there at about 2pm. Changed my plans and attacked it your route - up the pass to Abergwesyn and then looped round to Llyn Brianne.

Found a good spot just down from one of the minor water management sites not far from the western end of the Devils Staircase.

Got back just before 5 pm - a little under 2hrs 20mins.

I'm not surprised there were a few 4x4s about - there are a lot of green lanes around there including Strata Florida (seven miles of off-tarmac heaven).

I got there about 11ish, wandered around until 12, ate sandwiches then came back.

Well - I am going to say it as no-one else seems to have.

Very best wishes to Prince William and Princess Catherine. Good luck in your married life together.

Not at all Barrie. I sincerely believe it.

The most saleable point is that the Monarchy are probably the best international public relations firms in the world and after a couple of misfires in the last intake I have high hopes for the current incumbents.

Strange car the queen was in, the wide door pillar stopped the camera getting a decent view of her until it was in line with the side window? I can't see it being a security measure, because a gunman could still shoot at the side window? It would have also obscured her view out of the car?

It was a stretched Bentley she got for her jubilee in 2002, and the first Bentley in the Royal fleet.
It has extra glass with a subtle tint to help keep things cool inside. Obviously works since the Queen had a blanket over her knees on the way to the wedding .

I watched it, and enjoyed it. I hope they are very happy together. It can't be easy trying to make a relationship work under the full glare of publicity nowadays.

Better video of it here Daily Mail Youtube video at bottom of page. To cap it all there's a policeman stood obstructing the view just as she becomes visible Think they need to take the car to the boys off 'Pimp One's Ride'

I for one am glad the wedding's over.

Maybe we can get back to some normal TV programmes now and not the Royal Wedding specials we've been suffering for the past 2 weeks.

Off to Harrogate now for a wander and lunch. I can hear a beer or 2 calling...
Cheers, HG

The wide door pillar is probably a structural requirement - the car would undoubtedly have bulletproof windows and the roof is largely glass, so you'd need fairly thick pillars to avoid the thing flopping around like a jelly and in order to protect the occupants in event of rolling the vehicle.

That said, I did see an interesting comment about the ever-thickening pillars on modern cars. The suggestion was that by adding extra-thick pillars to hold airbags and make the shell stronger manufacturers are actually making accidents more likely by creating bigger blind spots.

Right - well I`m packing ready for tomorrow`s trip down to Condicote in Glos for the Birthday celebrations ( my 65th last Wed ) and Chloe`s 3rd on Wed 4th - some of Jo`s family,my sister and hubby from Jersey , and Mummy & Mama and Chloe for 4 days - weather seems promising and the cottages have plenty of outdoor/indoor facilities.14 people should be a great gathering and hopefully not too much traffic on the M6 and M5 tomorrow.

Laters peeps

A nicer run is the route that takes you down to Bridgenorth, skirting Droitwich and picks up the M5 at the Worcester N junction. Never found the M6 very attractive and the though of that section from Walsall to the M5 junction and on to Bromsgrove - .It's not that much slower in my experience.
