Just bumped into a very pleasant twitcher at Parkgate on Wirral - sadly a Canon user with a 400mm lens - no reaction when I said I shouldn`t be talking to him !
He was looking for raptors and showed me some brilliant shots of birds he had taken previously and also some stoats which had been shown on Autumnwatch !!
We felt a little underpowered with our 18-55s but he pointed us in the direction of owls ( must have heard us coming !! )and all we saw was a Jay and a Pheasant.
Lovely crisp afternoon with no wind and weak sunshine - and the ice cream cornet was fun too !

My theory is that all wildlife can tell how long a lens you have and will move just out of reach. Red Kites certainly know how to do this - they'll always hover just beyond your range or turn up, hang around for a while, then drift away as soon as you pick a camera up!

I thought that was the Olympic (Titanic's older sister and the only one of the three to survive into the 1930s)? Hit by HMS Hawke after suction caused by the passing of the Olympic pulled the warship out of control, ended up with a triangular-shaped hole in her side and a bent propshaft. This actually delayed Titanic's maiden voyage as they took one of her propshafts to repair Olympic.

I stand corrected - whilst historically it was the Olympic I am a believer in the conspiracy theory that the Titanic was in fact the damaged/repaired Olympic that was lost off the Grand Banks.

Age is a terrible thing Matt - although it could be the alcohol or the medication - lol

Mouse is back. Bag in the bin under the sink been ravaged. Rather pointless as all food waste goes into special roddent resistent recycling box on the work surface.

Going to mark the varmint with a dab of paint when it's captured and release it at the bottom of the garden - well away from the house and where there is food on the ground as spilled from the bird feeders.

Can't be - the two ships had slightly different designs (Titanic was possibly slightly longer and had some promenade decks enclosed) and the mini subs exploring the wreck have found that every part number on her matches those on the Titanic drawings. It'd be one impressive insurance fraud to change all the cast-in part numbers on every marked component of a ship without any of the workforce involved saying a word...

Well I'm halfway through a first aid refresher course, it's amazing how much I remember!

But you still don't stop bleeding from the head by tying a knot in the neck!

Damn, that's where I keep going wrong!

My theory of first aid: Keep the red stuff inside by any means. If they're making a lot of noise then it means they are breathing. Look at the quiet ones first!

Has anyone else noticed a dramatic drop in spam in the email inbox?

5 pieces of spam since before Christmas .

According to the Beeb it is not clear why but it is a world wide phenomenon.
My husband says he's still getting as much as ever though.

Epiphany is over now... it's snowing and the roof is open. Lovely.

The guy's coming to put the glass in the balcony at 8. So I'll then spend much of the day downstairs doing car audio planning and the re-painting of my old angleopoise style lamp in vivid gloss blue.

What do you call an Aussie with champagne in his hand? The waiter.

What do you call an Aussie with 100 to his name? The bowler.

Sorry to our Aussie members but I just couldn't resist.
