Don't know about the effect on cyrils but chocolate spread is a good mouse bait.

Been trying to catch a mouse lurking somewhere under our corner sink unit - final got it with choc spread at the end of the trap yesterday. Released the captive into the undergrowth whilst cat far away. Reset the trap, just in case it had a friend. Check this morning - another resident!
Released at before.

Check for possible entry points - probably the cat bring us presents in as no route in. Trap reset again.

Are you sure it wasn't the same one? I'm afraid I use traps that kill the wee critters - I had a humane trap once and released the mouse - only to see the little so and so running back towards my house before I could get back myself. Now I use "Super Cat" traps - they have a very effective bait built in and kill the mouse instantly. They are reusable which is unusual for mouse traps and getting rid of the body is clean and easy.

I was expecting a fresh influx of mice with the cold, but the traps haven't caught any and I see no evidence of them.

Cruel and hard hearted, that's me.

I have to go dig my car out. They finally decided to plough our street, so it's up to the bottom of the door in snow. It was difficult enough to get into the space, so now I'm debating leaving it (so if something does drop on it tonight, it'll hit snow and not paint) or moving it. Having said that, there aren't many options for parking either

Mice will find their way back from miles away..... even across water They can get back in the house through very tiny gaps, sadly the only solution is to kill them Peanut butter is also good bait, but the best solution is probably the small plastic box trap with poison already in it. The mouse dies in the box within seconds.

I don't mind mice in the garden but not in the house they can do so much damage chewing through soft furnishings etc.

No - they all look the same (unless you're a mouse yourself!). This was a clever one - sussed the trap and filled it full of nesting materials without getting caught. That was with peanut butter as bait. Choc spread was toooo much for it - probably a 'her' - most females seem to have a strong yearning for it IME.

Location of the hidout wasn't an easily accessed void - fully built in kitchen with no floor penetrations. Mouse would have to have jumped up onto the waste pipe, climbed up the steep incline and crawled through the cavity via a very tight opening. Most likely one of Cookie's (the younger of our cats) hunting prizes that she got bored with.

Trap was empty this morning when we checked it.

We had a mouse in the loft this time last year. Living in a bungalow we are short of storage space and so we had stored some Xmas chocolates up in the loft. When we went to get them a mouse had chewed through the corner of a box of Maltesers, eaten the chocolate off the sweets but left the centers, very cunning. Edam and an old fashioned spring trap saw to it's demise

^^ hear hear on that and have a safe one y'all!

Already seen the idiot kids messing with bangers near a roundabout.... but there are far fewer fireworks than last year. It was a constant stream up to the school near us (big space, lots of convenient snowbanks to stick rockets in) last year and this year it's extremely quiet. Having said that, visibility is also awful right now for the big display. Might even have to leave the flat for once
