I've noticed in Spain, the fireworks seem to be aimed at making as much noise as possible, rather than putting on a visual display.

I can get out onto the balcony again now (last week the handles were put back on!) so I'll be trying to get some decent FW shots. The big display last year was almost unimpressive from here, I might go out and try to get some better shots.

Gareth - I feel your pain
I dare not add up what I've paid out for the sitting room and kitchen . The last straw was the new Boiler [ and of course the labour fitting it ]
Just been laughing like a drain after my sister-in-law dropped in and said she was worried in case she had to get a new boiler - she reckoned it would cost her about £1k
Her house is HUGE compared with mine and old and the heating system is equally old and inefficient . I told her to triple the £1k and she nearly had a heart attack , and I have to say I don't think that will cover her 7 room house !

Depreciation? What's that?
A good Discovery has now bottomed out to the extent that I could probably replace mine with one the same age, condition and lower mileage for under £4k. Thing is, I wouldn't know how previous owners had treated that while I know mine's had a new clutch, new battery, new alternator, cam belt changed on time, regular oil changes and rusty sills welded up. In reality the only reason I'd have to replace it would be a write-off after a crash, as everything else is perpetually renewable and upgradeable.

Welcome back. Sounds like you had a great time.
That bird box sounds really cool. I am envious. I hope you soon get some residents in it.
I wouldn't give Cyril too much chocolate - it is a poison for many animals.

Not sure I'd be keen on an early TD5 - they seem to catch an interesting selection of electronic problems given half a chance! The only things not working on my 300TDI are aircon and the heated rear window.

Don't know about the effect on cyrils but chocolate spread is a good mouse bait.
Been trying to catch a mouse lurking somewhere under our corner sink unit - final got it with choc spread at the end of the trap yesterday. Released the captive into the undergrowth whilst cat far away. Reset the trap, just in case it had a friend. Check this morning - another resident!
Released at before.
Check for possible entry points - probably the cat bring us presents in as no route in. Trap reset again.

Bear in mind that after 1996 the 300TDI went electronic with fly-by-wire throttle and electronic injection pump (mine's one of the last all-mechanical ones). One less thing to go wrong and also means you can tweak the pump for more power.

I owuld'nt buy another TD5 not because of reliability as it has'nt let me down, but 23-24 mpg you can buy a V8 for a lot less and what you save you put gas in it, V8's are usually higher spec and better looked after as well.

I think wheeler dealers is more about entertainment than a serious car program, when i got my TD5 a similar age V8 was app. £1000 cheaper also a V8 sounds a lot better , wish I'd kept my V8 lightweight

Today is something special, it only happens once a year.
Yes, I actually cleaned my car!
I shall now drive 300 miles to Bristol and back, so I can get its protective layer of dirt back...
(oh and its my birthday)
Happy New Year everyone, btw...
