Well if it is "in the gearbox" then it is the clutch slave cylinder - so no risk to the brakes at all - separate circuits.

It's most likely in the clutch bell housing, 'twixt engine and gearbox. Why designers think it rational to put it in there rather than on the outside, I can't fathom. But needing a full engine and gearbox drop sounds extreme... You might want to confirm the remedy with another garage, esp. if he indeed led you to think that your brakes and clutch were interconnected ...

So now I have to make a descision, I have a mint Jupiter9 85mm that I always always wanted and since owning it I have used it twice! Maybe more of a case of lusting over it than practicalty : Do I sell it to fund the repair or try and explore other avenues first, torn descision but car has to be repaired as my main business is driving instruction!
Ditch the car and spend the money on a K5!

After all the muck slinging that the british press have done calling the FIFA reps corrupt did anybody think the world cup would come to the UK?

Let's face it, it wasn't a poor bid, or russian bribes that lost us the opportunity, it was stupid press reports!

Still, on the bright side, we don't have to worry about how the country's going to pay for it.

By the way, I'm not a football fan, I feel it's an over hyped waste of time space and money.

I don't think the press had anything to do with it. Really I don't. They didn't like the Dutch Belgian or Spanish Portuguese offerings either - and there was no scandal in their press, apart from the expense of it all and that FIFA insisted on special lanes on motorways, and tax free living for all their officials.

FIFA went for the money, as they always do. How much ended up in their back pockets I wouldn't care to speculate upon.

I am relieved it is not here or in the UK tbh.

Qatar in the summer will be hell for everyone involved unless all matches and training take place in indoor air conditioned arenas.

I'm mildly interested in it. Years of living with a rabid football fan get to you in the end. If you can't beat them and all that.

FIFA insisted on special lanes on motorways,
I think it's this sort of thing that annoys me most about the ball-chasing game. I remember being in Cardiff a few years ago on cup final day and being held up for ages by Police (along with everyone else attempting to use a main road) while one of the team buses barreled past.

Excuse me? I pay the same road fund licence as anyone else, I have the same right of way as anyone else. The only vehicles I will tolerate this sort of behaviour from are emergency services and bomb disposal responding to life-threatening situations, not a bunch of overpaid overgrown toddlers being taken to their week's work!

If they're worried about "security" then charter a helicopter, or travel incognito in unmarked vehicles. Worried about being late for the match? Do what we mere mortals have to and leave earlier!

The lanes aren't just for the players - they are for all the FIFA representatives, their sponsors and anyone else they care to name.
Given that many Dutch and some Belgian motorways are on 2 lanes in each direction that would have been a serious problem here.

The fact that they weren't going to pay VAT on anything was another massive annoyance.

The Russians are welcome to them.

Do I detect that the temperature outside (- many) is some what warmer than the feeling towards over paid brainless bladder kickers?

Our local gritters were getting slated in the papers, why weren't they out gritting yesterday in the heavy snow???

Er, maybe all the traffic stuck and causing gridlock could be the reason!

I do know they were out this morning at 5.00, how many of the whingers were?

Good work lads.

Reminds of a few years ago. I was driving up a road in Billingham, well covered in snow. I saw coming, directly at me, a snow plough followed by a convoy of traffic. So I pulled over to the left to let them pass, only to fall into a ditch. The plough had been working my side of the road when I pulled over. I've always had a soft spot for the Vauxhall Astra after it pulled itself out, when no one stopped to help.

Ah yes pebble dashed legs!!

I've had a duff day today, so far I've tried 3 times to develop various 35mm film strips, all to no avail. I seem to have got the timing thing wrong! The 120 film though was a success, so not a complete waste of time.

Think I'll move back to digital, oh wait a minute, I already shoot that as well...

Back to ebay annoyances. Don't you just hate it when:

You see something you'd really like (Pentax ME and 50mm f1.4 in this case) for a sane buy it now price but the seller's feedback rating is six, they only have one sale to their name, and their other items have nothing to do with photography (all of which ring alarm bells for me). I'd bite their hand off if they either had more feedback or the rest of their sales were camera gear!

@cardiff_gareth, Something seems odd! If oil filter was the leak - which is not that unusual, just a little carelessness on filter at the last oil change, then why the clutch/brake issue/repair? If it was clutch slave inside clutch housing then how did they know it was failing? Other symptoms? It should have been difficult to impossible to get clutch down without pumping it - which you didn't mention. And if fluid was leaking enough to visible from outside then the clutch plate should have been changed too, as it will probably have been contaminated. It's usually sensible to change anyway while you have the gearbox/clutch separated. Or at least give you the option.

And why does receipt show Master? (You should be able to see that all new and shiny under the bonnet back near the pedals.) Regardless you need that receipt corrected in case of a warranty problem.

Did you get to see the removed parts? Always a good idea - even if you can't tell a nut from a bolt, it raises the ante.

Not saying that garage didn't touch the hydraulics at all, or changed a part which was fine, but ...
