Sorry to hear about your friend Rob, we're all, as you say, getting older and are no longer as 'resistant' as we used to be.
That's why this lock down in the current pandemic makes sense.
Although the youths who feel indestructable may be out acting stupid it still sems to be working.
As for those youths, well the 'Darwin Principle' may come into play..
..hopefully.

OK, so Mrs H G works for the NHS, she's a community Rehab team leader and Physiotherapist by profession..
... she handed her notice in back at the begining of January, well before this current situation kicked off..
... and her last day working will be Thursday.
Feeling a little guilty she, and myself, had a late night sitting in the Bar Tat

last night enjoying a whisky or 4.
This morning she's working from home, and a good job too!
I'm a little hungover and presume she is as well, but she's currently on a video conference.
She's definately my NHS hero.

Good for her HG. No need to feel guilty about it either. I hope she enjoys a long and healthy retirement with you, and many more evenings in Bar Tat, and on the road again in the future.

Spurred on by my reminder of mortality I did something I haven't done for ages - dusted off my running shoes and went for a morning jog (I have been relegated from running to jogging for the time being) in the spring sunshine. It is good way to spot potential photo subjects which I can return to later, although usually forget to, and just to enjoy the birdsong. Came back feeling very worthy if nackered.

Fantastic - well done! I haven't been on a proper run in a while (aside from a few quick 5k's on the treadmill)... I should really go for one before long. That being said, I've been enjoying my walks with the dogs more than I usually would given the general state of affairs, so agree with you on the enjoying birdsong aspect.

We have been evil.
Our son finally got his ship up here on Sunday, but left his motorbike down by the winter mooring.
He was planning on getting the train down "sometime" to get it. The train involves several changes and over three hours. Not a great idea at any time but certainly not now, plus I could see the bike getting damaged in the meantime, so I suggested we run him down there.
So we did. A non essential journey in the sunshine, gave the car some exercise, gave us a change of scenery and got his bike to safety.
Even with having to stick to 100km/h, which is the new maximum speed here, it was lovely. Almost empty roads (though we did see a few campers and caravans!!) and views of tulip fields in bloom along the way.
No idea where the campers and caravans were going - campsites here are closed, and wild camping is illegal.

Incognito police? Foreigners looking for a way to get home? Or senior officials and politicians imitating what's been going on in Scotland and New Zealand? No idea where the campers and caravans were going - campsites here are closed, and wild camping is illegal.
Just a thought: if you drive a car for a non-authorised purpose, is the insurance still valid?

Given that public transport is risky it was probably fair enough. Caravans here have been stopped and sent home, and rural areas get justifiably angry at visitors. Cornwall for instance has a low infection rate so when Gordon Ramsay showed up at his holiday home and in local shops there was a lot of anger.

He has managed to p**s off the locals by demolishing a grand old house to build a new one, and then chopped down an avenue of trees so he could get his Ferraris down the drive. Like what the hell use is a Ferrari in the narrow Cornish lanes? Oh and then he turns up in a special Hummer complete with front winch and rope like he is going on safari.

Luckily our lock down is not as tight as in the UK, so we weren't likely to get a fine, especially as our son is registered as living with us.
A friend of ours owned a house in or near Rock, inherited from an aunt. Can't remember where exactly it was, we never went there. They used it as a family holiday home for many years, with their kids and grandkids and cousins, until they had to sell it to pay for nursing home care. They did very nicely out of the sale, but were heartbroken at having to sell up. No Ferraris were involved, and the only Hummer was their dog - a Jack Russell .

You've made me jealous Gwyn..
..under lockdown here, nice weather and not able to go out on Nina!
Oh well! When this is all over at least I have something to look forward too.

Sorry HG. I know it's tough. Sadly motorcyclists here are abusing the rules somewhat and riding in huge groups along small roads, closing some of them and having races. As a result many of the more attractive biking roads are blocked off and the police will be fining groups of more than two motorcyclists if they come across them.
My son's comment on them was "I ride my bike to get away from people, not to follow another twenty tail pipes down the same road".
Better times will come, and good weather will as well. Meanwhile enjoy a tipple or three in Bar Tat and your first few days as a retired couple.
Congrats to Mrs HG on her retirement!

Shocked to receive news that my Norwegian friend died last week. We worked together for six months in 1974-5 but lost contact, only for us recently to get back in touch and correspond about photography of which he was an ardent enthusiast especially for film. He used an impressive collection of cameras from a wooden large format rig to Hasselblad, Leica, Minox, Rollei as well as a digital Canon and Nikon. In fact the only camera he didn’t own, I think , was a Pentax! Like many I assumed I have years ahead but now I suddenly feel very vulnerable. Stay safe out there.
On a lighter note this sunny spring morning in the garden my spirits were lifted by the song of a skylark lost somewhere in the blue sky.
