I feel like a fifth wheel.
Removal men emptying my house and I have nothing to do except keep out of the way.

Will they not even let you be the foreperson and supervise

No, not even that.

They have gone now having packed up everything in 5 hours.
Now sitting on a camping chair in a nearly empty room.
Sleeping in the camper for the next month, here, away and then at the new house.

I don't recommend moving house.

Sympathies! Well at least the removers turned up, not like ours who had forgotten the booking - new owners hammering on the door waiting to move in, not fun. It was just before Christmas and the new house wasn't ready, so we rented a holiday cottage nearby. The owner had thoughtfully put decorations everywhere and it was in a really quiet part of the country so at the end of the week we were a bit loathe to leave! Strange sense of suspension, all our worldly goods in storage and all our money in a solicitor's client account. What else could possibly go wrong?!

I have made it perfectly clear to all my family and friends that the only way I am prepared to move is in a wooden box.

Nevertheless, if moving is unavoidable, as in your case, I do hope that you really like your new house and that the interim time is not too uncomfortable.

Regards,

Martin

We have just been watching the "Last Night of the Proms" on television. It's always a cheery end to the Proms season. During the well-behaved riot at the end, when the promenaders are singing and waving flags, I noticed a number of large Union Flags being waved that were upside-down. Were the owners ignorant of which way up to fly the Union Flag? Or was it deliberate? In the maritime world, flying the Union Jack upside down is traditionally thought to be a signal of distress.... I did notice a number of EU flags being waved enthusiastically!

It's because a group of party-poopers decided to spoil a celebration of nationalism to make a political point. Shame the organisers allowed it but that's what happens when the undemocratic exploit the very democracy they resent.

No politics please.

As for the flag, it's most likely that most people these days don't know which way up it goes, rather than any particular decision on their part.
Best regards, John

I remember having to call in at the school office on Commonwealth day (circa 1963) to point out that even they were flying the Union flag upside down. So nothing new! I guess many have no idea there is any difference. Was good at the time embarrassing the 'so called' experts!

Who wants to hear a saga about vacuum cleaners? After diligently washing the filter in the Dyson it died it spectacular fashion. As herself was using it at the time she was not best pleased. Off to Currys for a new one, herself found it much harder to push and put her back out; what are they thinking? Back to shop for a Vax but had to order online, deafeningly loud so that went as well. Ordered a Gtec, only available online and made in Worcester, you must have seen the ads. Brilliant! Makes the others look so last century, great to see real innovation.

You won't regret it. The retirement that is, not the test.
