filters for B & W film
You need a set of grade filters for the enlarger, great for adding punch when used right. Something to look into if your looking into developing yourself There's also a green and green-yellow in the black and white filter line-up. I think the orange is the one for hidding freckles if your inte...

filters for B & W film
basically you need to read up on color theory. each filter you use in b+w will appear to lighten similar colors and darken opposit colors. therefore enabling you to use contrast to control various colors in the image. a red rose on green foilage is a good example. no filter = little contrast betw...

filters for B & W film
Hmm.. Good advice yet again and I had never thought, to be honest, of getting a green filter, as somehow I had it fixed in my head that as I rarely do any portraits, then all I required for landscapes etc.. was the yellow, orange & red set. May well indeed get a green to add to the set and certa...

Birds!
164,397. Crikey that took a long time and I had to damn well start again at just past 158,486, as the postman knocked with my new 46mm red filter I had ordered. Surely it would have fit through my letterbox !!!!! Seriously, a lovely shot and may I ask just whereabouts this place is? I...

Recommended suppliers of equipment
These are a few of the companies I've dealt with... Second hand: www.mxv.co.uk - often a good stock of older lenses www.ffordes.co.uk - can be a little pricey, but worth checking out www.lcegroup.co.uk - always phone, their website is often out of date Others: www.ephotozineshop.com (actua...

Hi all, Not wishing to put a damper on this thread, but I think a word of warning is in order... Just to say, as good as both MXV and Ffordes have been in the past, I would say to anyone buying items from either of them, to check the items with a very fine tooth comb. I have had to return more...

I was in the UK for a visit and I took the time to find SRS. Firstly, I had to call them - they put the S/H lens to one side for me for a week; then I moved the visit, then I called them several times to confirm exactly where they were (all nav systems failed!) - Every single time, courteous, hel...

Another vote for SRS Microsystems - excellent place to deal with. If you want filter kits, reversing rings, T mounts etc have a look at this place - http://srb-photographic.co.uk/ Dave

inexpensive location lighting
as a side note: with a short extension cord I ran a 23 watt and a 13 watt bulb in standard lamps for over one and a half hours last night and the motorcycle battery was about half charged...will run it dry from a full charge today with 3 lights to see how long it goes. Saran Wrap makes bowl cover ...

Filters
That's a lot of questions! There is actually a very useful booklet that explains all the Cokin filters very well. It is often included with Cokin adapters so that you get off to a good start. Perhaps eBay could be a place to find one. The A series is the original, the P series are larger to make ...

Ideas for new pentax models..
if you shake your canons you can hear a little rattle. that would be a ballbearing that sits inside a little geo-dome-like buble full of electrical contacts. rotate the camera and the little ball rolls around makeing a closed circiut where ever it lands. my two requests would be this: my canons ...

Ideas for new pentax models..
I'd like an lcd filter built into the flash units that balances the flash output to match the ambient color esp when using custom white balance settings.

Just a pictutre or two
Hi Galoot, Yes, it does make your eyes go funny - I'm assuming that's a filter you've done in photoshop, not a bad advert for the 550's lens! I went up to Edinburgh to visit a friend, who lives in a small village a stones throw from the Firth of Forth, so I had the intention of taking shots of...

But the polariser makes such a difference, wouldn't be without it. Hmm, never thought to try a polariser filter on a macro lens. 'scuse me while i go and give it a try! :o

Hmm, never thought to try a polariser filter on a macro lens. 'scuse me while i go and give it a try! It can make just as stunning a difference as it can with 'normal' photography, in fact more so because you're often filling the frame with things that can benefit from the effect - the Toadstool sho...

...might take your advice and pauper myself for a polariser for it. No need to pauper yourself, well not unless you're really skint. I use a Kood one from 7dayshop.com (£15), fits the Cokin P system holder (although I've also got the Kood one of those too (£4)), so you just get the relevant adaptor...

Thanks for the recommendations, Dan. I thought I wanted a Benbo Trekker II for macro stuff - until I found out that it doesn't pack away much shorter than it stands up. Your combo sounds pretty flexible, though I may go for a slightly smaller tripod with that head. re polarizers, I'd been wa...

re polarizers, I'd been wanting to try that "infinitely adjustible" ND filter trick, using two stacked, so i was thinking of the cost of one and doubling it, for every lens I own...duh  I've never tried that technique - using Velvia before I went digital I never seemed to struggle t...
