ND Filters
Don I've said it before, and I'll say it again - love your attitude. And now I love your philosophy too. So, a non graduated ND filter - I'd guess the screw-on type - simply slows down fast film so we can get less D.O.F. at bigger openings. I can see the benefits (been using opposing polarizer...

ND Filters
Paul it's amazing how you can find these old threads. :) These days we also have now variable ND filters, you can turn them and like that adjust the density of the filter. Very handy.

ND Filters
That is useful - I was wondering how many stops a given ND filter takes off. I have an ND2 and ND4 but haven't used them much. I may try adding an ND8 to the collection, stacking them, and doing some interesting things with lakes. I've been getting the milky water effect with infra-red film recen...

ND Filters
I'm not sure whether the K-m can do infra-red? I did briefly try the filter but just got blackness even after adjusting the exposure settings. I've been using Ilford SFX in my KX, along with a tripod and cable release. Takes about 9mins to develop then another 5mins or so in the fixer.

ND Filters
The K-M and the K10D sensors are the same. It has a filter that cuts Infra-red light so you need to use very long exposures. I used 1 second at ISO400 for that shot, as you can see the sun was even in the photo so with other shots you might need to push it even to 2 to 4 seconds.

I really like your picture Stefan, so I'll be giving that a try too The K-M and the K10D sensors are the same. It has a filter that cuts Infra-red light so you need to use very long exposures. ND Filters
Paul you need good light though. Some even talk about 20-30 seconds at f8 or f5.6 ISO 1600 so take your tripod with you. Some companies are able to remove the filter infront of the sensor and replace it with one that doesn't cut infra red light or replace it even with an infra red filter so you ...

If only........
For those that want to try ... all I did was copy&paste the bird, into a new layer flip it vertically, resize the canvas, copy and paste the edges of the water, a little cloning and levels adjustment on each layer, before flattening the image. Cropped it then applied the liquify filter with a fe...

the "not Mattmatic" sharpener for jpeg shooters
Don, * A further tip is to desaturate the layer after running highpass. This stops any odd colour bleeding ;) * When applying the radius on the high-pass filter you are looking for the detail you want to just start appearing. * For a harder effect, change the layer blend mode to Overlay ...

skylight/UV filters
I know skylight and UV filters should filter out UV light. What I allways wondered was how much UV is blocked out. Does anyone have a idea on how much of the UV light should be filtered out and how much of the overall light should go through at minimum? (I am just curious what the anwsers are,...

skylight/UV filters
I was surprised by the results. I tested three filters I have around here. The first is a Hoya Skylight 1A CIE L*,a*,b*: 97.29, 1.70, 0.63 Damping: 6.85% Transmision UV380: 14,65% Transmission UV400: 19,32% The second is a Hama Skylight 1A CIE L*,a*,b*: 96.30, 1.37, 0.79 Damping: 9.27%...

skylight/UV filters
The UV filter only filters UV light, has no effect on exposure and is used to protect the lens and to reduce the blue cast at high altitudes. It also cuts through haze to some extent. The Skylight 1A filters more strongly, and ever so slightly warms the pciture. The Skylight 1B is stronger sti...

skylight/UV filters
CIELAB (CIE L* a* b*, CIE Lab): A mathematical derivative of CIE XYZ (1931) that describes colors using three synthetic primaries: L* (which indicates Lightness), a* (which indicates red-greenness), and b* (which indicates yellow-blueness). hmm, so the Hoya delivers a slightly lighter image, with...

skylight/UV filters
BTW any glass should reduce uv i believe lead used in the molding, cooling process acts as a filter, good enough in fact that farmers once switched from glass to plexi windows on chicken coups to improve animal health. your pentax glass with multi coating should be all the uv protection you need ...

New pentax models
I'm curious as to whether we think a "medium format" DSLR will be useful to the amateur? Oe would a full frame 35mm-sized DSLR be more to the point? The review of the Mamiya ZD in the new AP, which runs to eight pages, concludes that although it can produce stunning A3+ prints there are...

Good bye Pentax! Forever?
 as a last word on this from me Pentax has suffered a loss of competitiveness YES this is true BUT ask yourself WHY here is a few points to concider Q/ a large proportion of lenses in the SMC range for instance are F4 why is this A/ pentax kept the filter thread to 49mm so the owners of...
